stupid noob question

valves make rattle noticable when idling. oil is new and fine. anyway to get rid of this?

It's probably lifter tick. I hear alot of people complain about it. Especially in the colder months.
What kind of oil do you use. I personally haven't had any problems sinc e I switched to synthetic.

mobil 1 supersyn 5w30. I live in BC and it is COLD.

heavier weight oils have been known to fix the probelm for some people, 10w-40 for example. Some have removed the lifters and cleaned them..which resolves the problem for awhile then it returns. The only sure method of correcting lifter tick is changing to new lifters.

Does it do this all the time or just until it's benn warmed up.
I wouldn't go any thicker for now especially since winter is here.

Unfortunately like Sllipstream said. The best cure for this is to try cleaning them or replace them.
In a last effort I would try changing my oil with fresh and possible going to 10w30 to see if that works. Or you could use a real thick oil for your last quart. Maybe that might help. If not your back to square one of changing your lifters. Good Luck.

What he said and switch to 10W30 syntheic. I wouldn't use 5W30 grade.. normally that weight oil has to many polymers and additives.

I had the same lifter tick in my talon. And like someone said earlier it does sound a lot worse in the colder months. However all I've ever used is synthetic sinse I bought the car, and it's still ticking. From the advise I've got all I seem to have left is to take off the head and fix it.

Many have had success with "Restore". I have no earthly clue why it would work, but DSMs seem to like it.

I think they have it in Canada.

If it's really that annoying you could always buy the upgraded ball style lifters that do not tick. The range for these is around $115-140 depending on what brand and who you find them through. I am personally starting to like the tick...when the ticking is insanely loud at idle that tells me I am a quart low.
