Ok so i have another valve cover that i want to put on my car. But it does not have the little tube that comes out that goes back into the intake (the thing im pointing at in the pic) Does this little tube just pull out or what? I tried to pull it out but it didnt budge.

Also is it okay to re use my VC gaskets? I dont really have money for a gasket kit.

Thanks,
Taran

Yup.

Should just pull out. Vice it, be careful not to contort/crack the VC itself, and twist it.

That's how I've removed the last 3. ;P Or just tap in on it a bit and loosen it up.

And yes, you can reuse the gasket. Clean it up, remove all residue, put a THIN coating of rtv on theflat edge of the gasket just to be doubly sure, and reply with the CORRECT torque... which isn't very much at all.

If the gasket is becoming hard and not as flexable then you need a new gasket kit. If you just put it on and took it off recently then you'll be fine. You really should never reuse any gaskets but it's heat that kills the VC gaskets.

Can you reuse the valve cover gasket? yes. Is it better to buy a new one? yes. However i myself often reuse valvecover gaskets and typically never run into problems due to such reuse. However i would be careful when putting it back on not to tighten it down to hard and crack it

Just get a valve cover gasket off ebay for like $15 and go to an auto parts store and get a tube of RTV. The total of $17 it will cost is worth not having to mess with trying to reuse a gasket.

You guys act like these gaskets hold up to the same abuse as say... a Head gasket or Oil pan gasket. Infact, most people don't use Oil Pan gaskets and stick with Grey RTV.

If the Gasket is in good shape and has no nicks and is not dried out and rotted, you can re-use it if you can't affored a new one.

People are going to say " Get a new one " And of course you SHOULD, but I understand that if you can't you have to work with what you've got, and sometimes you can't afford to go a week without a car over a small gasket. Use the old one. LIGHTLY, LIIIGHHHTTLY coat the flat part with RTV, and be on your way.

Period. If you have issues with this failing... I'LL buy you a new one.

Ultra Grey RTV is the factory oil pan gasket. :ohdamn:

On the rocker cover you should only use RTV in the corners where it fits over the cams as shown in the FSM.

can you tell me where you buy these for 15$?
Checkers and Napa sell them for 50$ plus with out the whole gasket kit.

Do you guys know what the torque is off the top of your heads?

You can get a valve cover gasket kit off ebay for like $15.

The valve cover bolts should be torqued to no more than 3 ft-lb.
