stupid CX Racing 16g

ok so i bought this 98 Gst and it is so clean the engine has a nice fresh rebuild and even a nice built bottom end.
I have been using it for my DD while i am building my Talon. So the eclipse has a CX Racing 16g knock off tdo5h whatever i am thinking sweet right? NOT! yeah i have been noticing some grey smoke come out of my exhaust, in my rear view mirror. anyway i had the boost set at 15-16lbs, and since I noticed that smoke, I got here and did some reading, on the smoke. and came up with a few diff. solutions....
1st my rings are bad, but wait its supposed to have cp pistons put in about 5000 miles ago.
2nd my seals are bad, but wait the engine was just rebuilt.
3rd the pcv is clogged and needs to be changed, took it off and the only thing i could think of is to blow through it and see if i can feel the air coming through, and i can.
4th maybe the breather is not letting the pressure out causing pressure problems. But it just has a vacume line about 8 in long and it is not clogged at all. so it def is not causing any pressure build up there.
5th i take my air intake off the turbo inlet and check the shaft play, and the freaking wheel feels like it is going to freaking pull out of the housing, and i am like WTF.

So i have come to the conclusion change the dang Turbo and see what happens. what to you guys think

Blunt answer? You got what you paid for. Buy a real MHI Evo III 16G and count this as a lesson learned about what parts you can't cheap out on.

you got that right i found the MHI E III 16g for 567 shipped through Extreme Psi brand new, you guys agree that is a good deal? I feel like it is. i want to keep it stock appearance in the Bay, for the most part it is my DD but i still wanna have fun LOL, i do still have the 14b off the talon, screw it i will just wait for the new 16g to come in,
it still boosts good it just smokes a little bit, and only when i let off the gas pedal, the compressor wheel is completely dry so for the next couple weeks i am gonna roll with it and hope i dont hurt to much with it.
sorry for the B*&^%ing about it on here but i figured you guys might like a good read, haha

i'll be honest, with the $500-600 a new good 16g runs, I'd rather pick up the Bullseye 50 / 57 trim for $600 and have an awesome turbo with a lot more potential than the 16g albeit a bit more turbo lag

that sounds great but i already have my talon for my super fast project car i am completely fine with having a stock appearing 16g in the eclipse but that is some really good advise for the talon :thumb: but i already have a 50/57 trim on it :hellyeah: i am just going to restore it while i drive the eclipse everyday to work.

I am not gonna lie it is an ebay t3/t4 on the talon but i will tell you what that sucker works for now and it was only $200 LOL it looks and works great but i have a good supporting setup for it,

well went ahead and bought the 16g off of FP's website unported and unclipped, 499 free shipping, so hopefully that takes care of my prob, when i get it in and put it on.

now when it gets in i need to stop being lazy and put a 190FP and my SafcII maybe this will be my motivation! :)

Porting is where grind down the ring at the start of the exhaust housing on the turbo for better flow and clipping is where you clip the turbine of the intake housing (i think) but i cant remember why sorry.

I never can understand why people buy ebay turbos? Enough threads why not to, get what you pay for for all the work and hassle and it may be cheaper but not in the long run got my evo for half the price of a new one, rebuit its like new. Look there out there decent turbos.
 
Hey I bought ebay 16g for $40. it was leaking oil all over the place. Got t3 bearings, and oil seals and Mitsu rubber o-rings, parts costed me like $20, and rebuilt it. I installed it in March and i haven't had any problems with oil leaking or burning and shaft play.
 
There are alway someone who has luck, for now, its just not for me tired of doing things over again. Not getting into a debate over turbos.

As for your PCV check.... you should only be able to blow through it one way. Hope you verified that.

3. Your turbo was crap. You're replacing it. Problem solved.
4. You should use the search button with any additional questions you have (i.e. your ported and clipped question).
