2G Strut tower rust [Merged]

I have some minor surface rust around my actual strut tower, and am going to try to fix it this week. This is what I plan to do...

-Grind down all the rust, so it just shows metal
-Bondo any small holes (if any)
-Primer the surface
-Rust-oleum paint

-Then use bondo rubber undercoating for under the wheel well

Should this solve my problem? also - is there any problems with doing paint work in winter? I'm from Wisco and its wet and cold as hell right now.

Thanks.

How bad does this look?

Better than mine, haha. The big chunk of fiberglass the previous owner covered up the rust with finally popped off today. Have to give him some props though, before it started splitting apart it looked just like a healthy strut tower. :p Oh well, I'm getting a welder soon and will be completely replacing my towers. :)

Yeah I got the same problem guys. Problem is, I'm trying to sell my car. And the shops around me won't even touch it because it's not worth the hassle or money to them. The other side is just surface rust but I'm sure it's going to be on it's way out soon too. I'm kind of thinking that I just might sell it as it is because it's going to cost over a grand to repair and really isn't worth it since I'm getting rid of the car. But anyone got any suggestions what I can do to make the car more appealing to a buyer?

+1, please don't try to cover it up, for the sake of whoever might buy your car. Happened to me, and luckily I can handle repairing it correctly. If I was someone less mechanically able, though, I would be one pissed off buyer.

Prepare to throw up........... wasn't this bad, but I didn't wash my salt covered car since October and has been sitting for a few months, and has got much much worse..

1990whitetsiawd - take the tire and upper splashgaurd off and inspect the underside. Mine was a bit less than that on the drivers side, but when I cut the metal out the underside was worse.

ginNboost/vprime - you guys probably need to replace the whole mount, there is a procedure on the icar website

There may be repairs to the subframe needed as well

I have some. Should i just cut it out and weld new metal in?

Well here is the progress on my passenger side. Replacing pretty much the whole area behind the fender. I figured I would do it right the first time, rather than having to do it over and over again. Driver side comes next, along with the cracked/rusted frame/rail/support on the underbody.

Just got my first welder, 140amp Hobart MIG :)

First time welding right here:
