Hey guys,
I'm taking my exh. manifold off. I got all the nuts off the studs except one. It's one of the bottom ones. I went to put a wrench down there and turn but its rounded and it just slips. It wont grap at all. What's the best way to get this off?

Thanks guys

There are a few ways. If you have enough room, thread another one on and tighten it up against the other one and when you try to loosen it you will pull the stud too but it will come out. Other than that your only bet is to get some sort of adjustable wrench of vice grips on there and take it off. Only way to get it out now is most likely gonna take the stud with it.

God i've worked on this stupid thing all day now. And it is still not off. First I got this stuff called steel max which is like a putty that hardens to "steel" form. Put another nut on the end of the stud put the putty around the two nuts. That didn't work. So then I tried to spot weld the nuts together. And it didn't budge. It BROKE the welds! Its one of the middle lower ones so I cant get vice grips to it. I dont know what to do. Any advice?

Have you used lubrication? A few good soakings in PBlaster will work wonders...

Also, you might try drilling a hole in the center and using an EZ-Out.

If worse comes to worse, you can always drill the whole thing out and re-tap the hole.

I wonder if one of those wonder stripped nut sockets would work? They have spiraled grooves in a left hand pattern. Available at Sears and such.

Accessability may present the problem with those though.

As they are in socket form, they may just work.

Good Luck

dremal it off. get the manifold out of your way and then grip it with some vice grips. get new stud and nut and your set.

I FINALLY GOT IT! Decided to try a spot weld one more time. Drenched it in pb blaster and it came off!
