I have a HUGE problem! When I was reinstalling my drive-line I cross threaded the stud on the rear carrier bearing. Normally this wouldn't be to big of a problem just remove it an replace it ,but I don't know anyone who carries a replacement and the stud is tack welded to the car in three places with limited access space around it. I'll post pictures later tonight. Does anyone have a clue how I can fix this?

I would buy a tap and die set to fit it and re-thread it, that should fix it and would be alot easier then replacing the stud!

Heres a kit, but you should be able to buy just the die that would fit, from you're local parts store!

Yeah, I thought about that but the stud is bent too I'd rather not have that son of a B break going down the freeway. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm going to try and drill the tacks out I drill all day long on airplanes anyway so it should be no problem but finding something to replace it is going to suck does ARP make any studs that would be about the same size? Its got a big flat head on the other side though.

Heres some pics

As unlikely as it may be, you may be able to try to stealership to just see if they carry one and how much...

First thing I tried no luck they only have the nut LOL and they cant even tell you what size the nut is all they see is a part number. I figured they'd have blueprints and crap like that of the car but nope just a lame ass parts look-up system that's dated 1900.

So heres my progress got the stud out now I'm just looking for a replacement emailed ARP so hopefully I'll get lucky. If anyone runs across a bolt that will work or a thread that will help please let me know.

If they can even get it anymore they would get that whole metal bracket with 2 studs installed, to weld on for collision repair. By the pictures they look to be M12x1.5. If a lug nut threads on just fine then that's what they are.

I had a stud break on me. I just removed it the way you did, got an m10x1.25 bolt that was about the same length as the stud, and tightend it up. It isn't going anywhere once it is in place of the stud. All you will need to do is be able to hold the head of the bolt while tightening the nut.

I hav put many freeway miles and even gone to the drag strip since and have had no problems.

Yeah worst case that's what I'll do maybe tack the bolt in though so I don't have to hold it.

I had the exact same thing happen last spring. i did exactly as you did. I removed the stock stud and just used a bolt with locktight and it worked fine all last summer. write ups always help and you have some really good pictures to go along with it.

LOL when one of mine stripped I just cut it off and took a standard bolt that was about the same size and length, cut the head of it and had my brother hold it staight with some vice grips while I tacked the new stud onto the old one. Then continued to weld around it. Held up to all the abuse I put to it.
