I'm going to the drag strip in a couple of weeks and I wanted to do some cheap tricks before i get out there.

I have a 2g gs-t, all stock

I was wondering if running straight off the down pipe will give me more power than with the full stock exhaust on. or do i need the full exhaust for the back pressure?

any other cheap tricks will be helpful!

Backpressure is NEVER good, people just misuse the term in place for scavenging. An open downpipe will make a few more HP than a full exhaust.

If you can remove it at the strip go for it. I don't suggest you drive to the strip without it thought, but it's your choice/risk... It'll give you a few more hp but if it's the only mod you have it won't be the most noticeable power increase. I'd personally just run stock, then, as you mod the car you'll see the difference more and more.

Yea sure, running a open downpipe will give you more HP, but it will also give you more TICKETS. You will get pulled over all day long with running a open DP.

Is that supposed to be fact or opinion? I've never gotten pulled over for loud exhaust on any of my cars I've had over the years running an open DP or no mufflers.

What you can do is put a valve on your exhaust after the O2 plugs so you open it up at the track and it bypasses the muffler and cat so you basically have a strait pipe while on the track and when you want to take the car home, you close the valve and its street legal.
