I'm actually posting this for a buddy of mine who has been recently hearing rattling noise from the front end of his car. After diagnosing it for him I tracked the rattle/clunking noise to his stoptech 2 piece rotors. You can only hear the sound when he hits bumps, yet when you press on the brakes lightly while hitting bumps the noise goes away.
I pulled his wheel off and noticed that his rotors move quite a bit. I know that floating rotors are suppose to move a little, but his rotors seems to move a lot in every direction. It moves at least half a millimeter easily just by lifting it with your hand.
So my question is, are 2 piece floating rotors suppose to move that much? Enough to rattle while driving around on the street?
Thanks
