i recently purchased a set of stop tech rotors and calipers but my current rim does not clear the rotor. The guys over at road race engineering told me that the calipers are the same size of those of a Evo VIII, I need to know what offset and size rim would clear the calipers and rotors. THanks. ANy help is greatly appreciated.

Please do not post questions in tech articles...

It would help to know the size of the brakes and what size wheels you are trying to fit over them.

the caliper is a 4 piston and it is the same size of that of a EVO VIII, and the rim would be a 17" or 18" .....thanx

>the caliper is a 4 piston and it is the same size of that of a EVO VIII

What do you mean by “same size as EVO VII”? Given how one is made by Brembo and the other one is made by StopTech, I highly doubt that they are EXCACTLY the same.

>and the rim would be a 17" or 18" .....thanx

What wheels have you actually tried?

Since it is not clear what you have, I would start with just about any 17” or 18” and see where you need more space. You might find that a ~1/4” wheel spacer will do the job (stack some flat washers to simulate a spacer.

Offset and size are not the only factors. You really need to just know the physical dimensions of the given rim.

I have Ronal 18" LV series rims with a +35mm offset, and these just barely clear my Stoptech brakes. The 17" LV series rims with a +35mm do not fit.

i was looking at the 18" racinghart multipiece C4, i was thingking of maybe just ordering two of these kinds of rims for the evo 8 18x7.5 and try them on.......how did u figure out the specs for the rims that u wanted?......thanx

You don't need wheels.
You need hats with a bigger offset to them. Those look to be about 1" offset. I'd say you need about 1.25 or 1.275 for the rotor. Not sure of the rotor- if it's 1.10 or 1.25 but the issue is more in the hat if you can shft the back side of the rotor 'in' more you'll be in good shape. Just be ready to move the caliper in as well.

Perhaps.

On a 1G the back space is very minimal and you cannot do this. (noting you have a 1G)
On a 2G the back space is very user friendly.

Example; (my kits)

Using a 13" rotor of 1.10 width the hat offsets change greatly.

1G: .525"
2G: 1.25" (requires very minor clearance grinding on iron knuckle)

That's a change of nearly 3/4" thus moving the rotor centerline 'in' more and in turn the caliper body also.

I'm just offering up some ideas here. If they can supply you with a deeper hat (not knowing the exact spec on the one you have) and you can shift the radial bracket in as well you might be able to avoid the wheel spacer issue.

I should have included more info in my post. Didn't mean to come off like a smart*ss Todd. Now that I reread it, it looks like I did. Anyway here is the rest of the info: Stoptech uses a 1.25 inch rotor in their kits which requires the shallow offset. With a rotor that thick the backspacing is very limited. You might want to get in touch with Blak94GSX(Scott Gray) and ask him what wheels he uses the clear his Stoptech's.

Didn't take it bad at all. No harm, no foul.

I just don't know which platform the brakes are intended for.

The 1.25 rotor pacakge I've done as well on a 2G. This will take a hat with about 1" offset max. I think I used my common .825 hats for them. On a 2G this might stil be doable with a decent wheel selection as 1.00 is not a modest number.

The 1G is all but about hopeless for a 1.25 rotor and any BIG selection of wheels. The hat offset is about .385 (mine anyhow) and the caliper with this package is goning to be VERY far out from rotor centerline. Wheels like Comp SSRs and a few might fit without spacers. Not many....

Here's hoping he finds something! Please let everyone know!

When I installed a Stoptech 4 piston 13” brake kit on a 91 Eclipse some time ago the wheel choices were somewhat limited if you do not want to resort to spacers.

The choices I found were Gram Lights 17x7.5 30 offset, SSR GT1 17x7.5 38mm offset, SSR Comps 17x7.5 38mm offset and OZ Superleggeras 17x8 40mm offset. Other choices which maybe heavier are available from Tirerack.

I chose the OZ Superleggeras which I have been very happy with.
