See the whole argument is what can be labaled as all that crap? What you say crap is might not be another person's idea of crap and no one can say one way and only one way is right. It is up to each and every single person to choose what they want and like. No one person can stereotype what is tasteful rice and what isn't.

Some people think DSM are Japenese junk and only a true V8 powered Musclecar Chevy is the best ever and the only thing you should ever want. Some people think only a V8 powered Ford Mustang Saleen is the only car you should respect or ever want. Some think a Corvette and it goes on and on.

There is no only one way or best way!!!!

Not everywhere in the United States will you get laughed at if you have a car that looks fast but is not! Some places that value fast cars only Yeah you would get laughed at, but some places where people don't speed and race all the time would tell you your tricked out customized ride is sweet. I would bet there are even places where really to me riced out cars would still get some sembalance of respect. It all depends on where you live.

Also do you care if you get laughed at if you are doing what you like? You shouldn't. Not everywhere would you get laughed at trust me on this.

I'm never said everyone has to have a fast car. All I'm saying spending all your money on APC products and stickers rather than something with function is RICE. That money could have been put towards something useful, no matter what kind of car it is.

What if you feel that the APC products and stickers is useful to what you want to do with your car? That is not necessarily wrong, but that is that person's style for their car. You can choose to do this, but everybody wont like it.

Do you want them to not have the choice to buy APC? Do you want to label they way they do things as wrong? If you say yes to both of these than you are a racist or ricist.

You cannot take the freewill ability away to make personal individual choices on anything even car customizing. You don't have to like it, but you cannot label as one way to do something is better. This is the fundalmental principles of racism. Seperating something as wrong or bad and saying everything else or only this way is better. Think about what the underlying principles are. I am not asking you to praise APC, but you have to allow it to exist and for people to freely choose to get it or not and you have to respect people for making their freewill choices. That is all I am saying. It has to EQUAL AND FAIR. NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

wow, this is quite a thred I took the time to read most of it. will this matter, NO. but why not. take a look at my car. call it ricy go a head casue I really dont care. I built it (with my own 2 hands and a bunch of tools, except the tranny), I drive the hell out of it, and I am proud of the thing. if you happend to come across me on the street, you would probialy roll up in your sleeper think that your going to spank me. fine, youlook over and point out the wing and exhaust to your buddy and laugh, cool. you rev your engine sounds nice threw the 2.5 stealthy cat back or dare I say it a 3" oh god the noise of the 3" fart can. me I am still sitting there then I step on it suddenly you realize that mabey braging and laughing at that ricy thing wasnt so smart, especialy when you hear the rev limiter bouncing at 4500rpms. oh boy now what you might get spanked by, here it comes, a RICER. one of two things happen at this point, 1 you get wooped up on by me a ####y college kid who spends more time reading chem and bio books than you spend looking at porn, and feel like an a$$ infront of your buddy or worse your girl or you win and gloat all the way home, slim chance but it could happen. you'll never know what was under the hood of that ricy eclipse that spanked you, you wont even know that it was actualy a talon. whats my point, I really dont have one I just like to tell storys. btu people are gogin to build there cars the way that they want to. go ahead bash them for it if it makes you feel good. your opinion may matter to some people but most are very proud of there car wether its fast or slow all shined up and changed around or a sleeper. thats what your car is about and being proud of what you have done to your car is all that matters because no one can take that, they may dent it by beating you in a drag, off the line, or threw a road course. but it you put in the time, effort and, money you should be proud of what you have, its a DSM regardless, says so under the hood that alone is somthing to be proud of. if the n/t dont say dsm under the hood I dont care they are still in the same family so treat them that way

if I see a car like snoopys driving around, i would probably say "haha rice" just because of the 7' wing that is higher than the roof and the graphics... i personally dont like that stuff.

wings that are that high on a 15 second car serve as nothing but weight.

vynal graphics...... i hate. because its just a cheap way for 'ricers' to make their car look even ghettoer.

now if the graphics are painted on... i may give respect aslong as it isnt something gai looking.

To me being a "ricer" is the BAD ATTITUDE
I have both a turdo dsm and non-turbo. I first got the NT(95 talon),put a cat-back,intake,header and etc. on it.On the outside put a 97 Talon wing and 99 Mitsu rear end on it with Altezzas and Aftermaket front end,custom paint job. BUT I KNEW MY CAR WAS SLOW and RESPECTED THE GUYS WHO HAD FASTER CARS.
So now haveing a GS-T Makes me see the ignorence of the "ricer"
EXample: if you have a SOHC Neon (even if it doesnt have any stickers wings or whatever) dont act like you have a faster car then a turbo dsm.

To sum it up: KNOW WHAT YOU GOT and what others have to because some days even the turbo guys get there A$$ handed to them

It all boils down to, turbo guys think their better. Everyone who has yelled rice has a 4G63. I guess I should go over to 2GNT. I might not have to worry about those guys over there.

When you started this thread, you shouldve guessed something like this would happen. People arent calling you out cuz you dont have a 4G63, they are calling you out because youve stepped yourself into the predicament of having people voice their opinions about your car by the way it looks. You are unwilling to admit your car has a rice appeal by its looks, but you need to take into account what is concidered rice by the majority. Graphics, yes, non functional park bench aluminum spoiler, yes. Although you SHOULD get props because you do plan to turbo and you have done some credible engine mods.

Is your car nice? Sure it is. But is it rice, yes, it is. Whether youd like to admit or not, it will be concidered rice by the majority. And the majority's rule may not always matter, but if you care enough to start a thread and complain about "ricism", then you care enough about peoples opinions. I believe that if someone admits to having rice tendacies, then they'd be better off rather than to argue and cry about peoples negative opinions and rice calling. You have the right to get graphics, disgusting body kits, and stomach wrenching spoilers, but just remember, everyone has the same right to make a negative opinion about it. If you know your car follows a "negative creed", then just be happy and accept it, your MUCH better off. My opinion, I like your car. But the wing needs to go. A respectable move would be to ditch that wing and get some more money toward your Turbo kit. Oh, and forget about the "Lambo" doors AT LEAST till you get a turbo. Prolly what your gonna pay for those, youll be able to buy 2 Hahn kits but its your car, you paid for it, do whatcha want.

If someone calls your car rice who cares? There have been people that call my car rice (although I don't know why) I could care less.

The thing that bothers me is when people just use it as an answer to almost any question about appearance mods. I have asked a total of two appearance questions, one was about a black muffler. Alot of the answers were just one word rice (which I still don't see how that was rice, but oh well).

There is no difference between modding a car for looks or doing it for performance. You may not like one thing oh well. Although I do agree that when someone has almost nothing on his car and thinks he is a badass, that does piss me off, but oh well.

I have never, and will never say anything bad about another persons car. I guess I have more respect than most people. Does it feel good when somebody says your cars ugly? No it doesn't. So I don't do it. RESPECT people! I just wish people could understand. My goal for my car is to be under 13 sec with my "park bench" and a system. I know its going to take lots of work and money, but I enjoy it. I didn't start working on my car to make anyone else but ME happy. I wish everyone would work on their car with their own thoughts, not what everyone else says is cool.

I can't handle it when people can't some to grips with their car being rice. My old 1995 GS had a stillen front end, big wing, and 18's, but it ran a 14.5@96. IT WAS STILL RICE. My old car was as ricey as it gets. I'll admit that, I admitted it when I had the car.

You can't sit here and ask for an opinion on a site that is DEDICATED to PERFORMANCE and expect to have people not call your car rice.

yea i agree with cucumber.ive been on this site for about 2 months now,this sit is about 95% performance discussions.look at the name of the damn site,the dsm PERFORMANCE enthusiast resource.and if anyone wants to call my car rice for taking his side,my car is definately not rice.all that i have done to my car is performance mods.my car is primer grey and half a interior.these mods in this forum have nothing to do about the performance of your car.putting on stickers doesnt make you go faster.and with all this big stereo equipment people are putting into these cars trying to make them show cars is opnly weighing them down.all these body kits and wings and such are all needless mods.just another way to weigh down your allready heavy car.its one thing to make your car fast and do it right,but when you add ten tons of sh!t to the car and make it like 300lbs heavier than it allready is,i see this pointless.i also see it pointless to put a widebody kit on the 2g cars and pointless to put any body kit on a 1g.a 2g with a nice simple body kit i can see,not a heavy ass widbody kit.as for the 1g cars,they allready look good.as for more performance parts like anything carbon fiber that takes off weight from a heavy car i can see that.in my opinion rice is anny needless mod installed to complete overkill.like 10 grand into a stereo,pointless.this is just my opinion

To each their own.. if you like the way your car looks, and like to add exterior/interior modifications because you like the look of them.. the hell what anyone else thinks...

It's your car.. If you don't like them, fine no problem... Everyone is right, this is a place where you can voice your opinon, everyone knows that everyone has different opinons and hopefully can take them with a grain of salt.. I like hawaian print T-Shirts.. some may think I look like an ass wearing them but I like them so that is all that matters to me..

Most everyone in the tuning world has done "something" to their car that is not for performance that some would constitute as rice.. like that new shift knob, or window tint, or a shaded license plate cover so I wouldn't worry about it.. so some that call changes "rice" have most likely done something themselves along that line.. they just might feel as though you crossed their line.
