Hey fellow DSM'ers,

I am in the process of reviving a 95 GST and need to replace the turbo as the turbo is leaking oil and running up into the intake and engine...not fun times. The car is surprisingly stock in every way. The question i am going to ask then is i have to get a new turbo asap, so would it be safe to get an upgraded turbo now and save myself from paying for two turbos or what? Im thinking of eventually upgrading to a 16g but doing that now, i unfortunately dont know exactly what would happen and if it would run safely. If you suggest replacing with the 14b turbo again, where would be the best place to get one for a good price? I just want this beast back on the road running with the pack again ya know? Lemme hear your guys' suggestions ;D. Much appreciated guys!

Go with a 14b, t28, or 16g. All of those will be fine on stock boost until you get some supporting mods so you can have some real fun.

Personally I would say get a t28 just because it's a direct bolt on. The 14b and 16g will be a bit more work.

just go straight for the 16g. get the install kit and keep the boost down till you can afford a fuel pump, injectors and something to tune it with

As far as costs go, if you have find a T28 for cheap, its a great direct bolt on. Good for autoxing if thats your goal.

The 14b and 16g have a bit more power potential, but you will need an install kit that costs about $200 from most shops. So you have to add that to the costs of the turbo when your shopping around.

if it will cost the close to the same, and it most likely will, i say just get the 16g, and leave the boost at stock and you will be fine until you have fuel mods. That is what I'm doing on mine.

I have a forced peformance big t-28 for sale, has less than 10k miles and no shaft play. I put down 270 whp and 300 ft. lbs. of torque at 21 psi on this turbo. Spools very fast and pulls hard. Pm me if you are interested.

Personally if you are looking at buying a 16G turbo after your "SAFE" turbo, I would just buy it now. You will do absolutly no damage to your car with any turbo if you keep it at stock boost levels. Just get a MBC/EBC if you are really concerned.

:aha: My recommendation based on your mod list is an E316G turbo.
Right now they have a deal on Forced Performance for a Brand new EVOIII16G turbo for $499.99. It is a great deal if you can fork out the money.

my stock t-25 blew so I put on a small 16G with no other mods and it runs great at 14 psi tho if I wanted to unleash its full potential I'd need a better fuel system, intercooler, BOV, and tuning ability. It seems to pull a bit harder at the same psi, and has increased my top speed a bit

A Small 16G is a great upgrade turbo from a T25. More airflow potential per psi than the 14B, similar spool characteristic. The only thing that would beat out the Small 16G is the price of a used 14B- it's hard to beat a $50-$100 used turbo in good, useable condition.

If it was me, i would go with a 14b but thats just me. I like the fast spool and im looking to not boost more than 19 or 20 psi. If your goals are a little bigger then you should go with the 16g. you could just put the 16g on and run stock boost until you get the supporting mods instead of forking out money for 2 turbos

Hey guys,

I appreciate all your replies and you all have definatly put my mind at ease LOL. I'll be going straight for the 16g. I look forward to driving this car once it is finally completely leak free from inside out. Again your helpfulness is greatly appreciated and i will continue to scour the countless threads for information on any problem i run into. Lots of good stuff on here LOL. Take care guys. Great to be a DSM :hellyeah:

Since you decided to go straight to the 16G like I recommended, I would look into the special they have right now on the E316G on FP.
Forced Performance E316G $499

My g/f just replaced her stock turbo with another and we got a code saying that the actuator was bad, I'm not trying to hijack this tread but the topic is very relative to the discussion.. Can anyone tell me what exactly that meant The car runs fine no issues at all so don't really know where that code came from

Hey guys its me again,

Alright so i got a new big 16g turbo with bolt on kit and j pipe. I got the turbo in and everything is good as far as coolant or oil leaks. Im getting oil feed from the head instead of the Oil filter housing now as i hear the filter housing produces too much pressure to the turbo.

Anyway im having a boost leak issue. I have to say that before on my stock T25, even though it was leaking oil with shaft play and all it boosted fine and had NO boost leaks what so ever. The turbo would spool and boost would produce and the BOV would function properly. With that said i installed the new 16g and hooked up the vacuum lines like it was for the stock turbo which is now from the j-pipe to the 'T' that has one end going to the waste gate and the other end going to the solenoid. The line from the air cleaner to the solenoid is connected. I thought the leak could be coming from the Throttle body elbow as i went to clean the throttle body and i lost a nut so i figured that because a nut was lost that it was leaking from there. I put a new one on and it still leaks.

Here are the symptoms. The aftermarket gauge i have reads boost being produced to about 7 - 10 roughly. 1st gear is fine but i hear a leak and the bov isnt blowing off or sounds just like the leak while spooling. In 2nd gear, the car will boost up to around 8-9 psi then as rpm's increase, the car will bog down and feel like its hesitating. Wth is that? Do i have the vacuum lines hooked up wrong? Would this leak sound be related to these lines? I'm gunna try and find some way of getting a boost leak test to see wth is going on but any input would be amazing. Thanks

I myself will be running the FP BT-28 ported it's a direct bolt-on.

I hope you got it relatively cheap because the T28 doesn'tt produce as much power and they cost about twice that of the E316G. If you did buy it new, than you should have just opted to pay an extra 400 and gotten the FP GREEN :D.

Boost leak test should yield some good findings. As for hook-up, it is nearly identical to the t25. The only difference is the boost feed on the j-pipe (16G) vs. the compressor housing (T25).

BTW, your 16G will produce more boost than that Tiny25 so if you have not clamped everything down very tightly, you might want to do so now because when the boost gets turned up, the IC pipes start blowing off. Blowing off intercooler pipes sucks.

I myself would go for a Big 16g or any 16g for that matter. All would be a step up from stock and are compatible. Or while its down might as well go big :) j/k
