how far can it be cut before i should just get a new one? and is there any useless material that can be taken off to make it lighter without making it weak?

Go to Road///Race Engineering Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts and Performance Give then a call or an e-mail they should be able to tell you this answer. They do lighten factory flywheels to about 11 pounds from 18 pounds.

11 pounds is the weight of a act flywheel and I felt a noticable difference. The car revs a lot easier.
