Well I've been thinking about buying a stock Evo 8 front strut tower bar and trying to fab it up to work with my car. The reason I wanna try it is because the Evo 8 bolts to the firewall and makes the bracing that much better. Has anyone tried this or has it been done? Input please :D

I remember being able to post stuff like this and have an answer within seconds back in the day, now everyone only answers the stupid question threads that have already been answered who knows how many times. Bleh lame..

From the overwhelming response, I'd guess it hasn't been done...thus you should do a write up.

This is a custom fabrication question, how many custom fabrication people do you think are on the site, and of them how many do you think have done this?

I would say expect to cut it up and reweld it many times to get it to work.

I'd suggest buying a cheap ebay strut tower bar (just for the mounts) and fabbing up a bar of your own. It's probably easier than buying an EVO's and hoping, praying, cutting, and welding something together. I've actually toyed with the idea myself, fabbing a bar that braces to the firewall. Look up a Carbing strut bar for ideas.

I've actually always thought about this. If you're willing to do some fabrication work with it and drill and tap some holes on the firewall for it to bolt onto, I don't see any reason why you couldn't do it. I would say to just make one of your own, and just copy the evo design, but it would be much easier to start with something to build off, add material here, remove there, etc.

I think this might work good for you, get one of those cheap ebay ones with the adjustable ends and im sure you could make it work with the stock evo one with some fab work

my 1000 post LOL

I think the benefit of the bar would be lost with an adjustable off Ebay, though. Seems like someone with a welder and some bars could work one out pretty easily, but how would it mount at the firewall? Hmmmm...

Of course if it were me I'd get rid of the adjustable mounts and fab up one like the old skool Neuspeed bars of yester years. Maybe you guys are gonna convince me enough to do this :hmm:

Do it on a 1g, though. You 2g fools have enough parts available to you.

Maybe even just do some engine bracing then around the shock towers, firewall, and fender wells. I have one for mock up, I'm gonna get started on it once I get over being sick.

I have a factory evo brace, and we tried seeing what it would take to stick it on one of my buddies 1g, and it wasnt even close. I have good welding and fab skill, but the time it would have taken to cut the bar down evenly, make new side mounting plates, and extend the back of it to hit the firewall at the right angle, its so much easier just to buy the 15 dollar ebay one, and ruin it.

Yeah your probably right.. I'll probably just end up fabbing up something myself with some extra bracing.. I wanna make one for the rear with a x in it as well.
