I was at the pick-n-pull like a kid in a candy store.. AGAIN. I was really looking for silver power sideview mirrors but no luck. I came upon a modified 97 eclipse 420A with a burnt engine bay and just got curious about whats under the VC. To my surprise the head was extremely clean, my head is dirt compared to the one I found. I looked at the cams and they had different numbers from another 420A I saw. So since they are nice n clean and mine look corroded I pulled them. I am curious if they are stock or not. $49 :thumb:

Nope, these are the only markins on them. I've been trying to search for stock cam markings, another guy on here says his stock say 676 and 674 on them. Also, stock cams usually have ABX on them.

No one has any idea?

Hmm, no stock that I know of. Clean up the ends of the cams and check to be sure you don't see anything there. Might even remove the magnet.

You can get lobe lift numbers with a caliper or micrometer, which may lend direction. To get enough info to actually profile the cam you'll need a degree wheel and a dial indicator.

Well, hogtie me and make me scream for mommy, those are stockers OMG

You got me curious enough to head down to the parts bins and search through all my stocker cams. I always thought all the stockers were marked ABX. But I happened to find a pair that were like yours;

You see in the second pic an example of the ABX stocker. If you look at the other cams you can see a couple of differences in castings. One is between the second and third cylinders, there is a machined circumference that the ABX one does not have;

and on the fourth cylinder lobe, you can see an added "hump" in the lobe;

(I'm thinking the pair that you have would be a newer year pair because of these two additional core differences).

So, I figured I better check the gross lobe lift to see if they truly are the same (or if I got a "special" set like you did ;)). And sure enough, exhaust cam to exhaust cam come up with identical gross lift numbers on all the lobes (nominal. I was using my plastic calipers, but those would be accurate enough for comparison's sake).

So you have a set of stockers but you did get me curious enough to get up off my fat AZZ and check! So inquiring minds want to know, what year Eclipse you pulled those off of?

Interesting! Well I did have my hopes up for aftermarkets costing a cool $49... but I'm still happy with my find. They came from a '97 eclipse. But I could swear my '98 stockers have ABX on them. The pull could have been a rebuild.

Yeah, too bad. Without verification, we can't really make any judgements on what year is what........
