so im just curious, what would you say the highest boost and the most awhp a stock 1g 4g63t is capable of handling, while still being a safely running car? ive heard anywhere from 350 to 450 awhp is doable with stock pistons, rods, and cams, but ive never found how much boost stock can handle safely. im just curious cause i have a 20g im gonna put on soon, and im wondering how much psi i should run it at? its gonna be my dd, im thinkin like 16 to 18 psi? could my motor handle that? thanks!!

I've heard 1g internals holding 30psi of boost and crazy power.
For a daily driver I think your right in saying 350-450 HP is a good daily driver goal. I plan to eventually get up around 400 HP on my daily driver but I'm planning on using a EVO III 16g at around 20-22 psi.

As stated above, if you plan on going for high boost, get a strong head gasket and ARP head studs. I believe regular ARP head studs are good for around 28-30psi IIRC.

Do you plan on pulling the block out and getting the deck resurfaced? Are you resurfacing the head or is it already perfectly flat? If you like pushing coolant then the MLS is the way to go!

If you want a failsafe in case your tune gets WAY out of hand then I'd go with the composite. People are pushing tons of boost and making gobs of horsepower while still on the stock style composite HG.

There is some good information, if you can see through the BS in this thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/127426-amount-boost-stock-head-gasket.html

I ran 30psi with a hx35, while useing a felpro composite head gasket and ARP's.
Also on a stock bottem end!

I run a felpro and stock headbolts with a 16g at 30psi and e85 with 20* of timing. I have ran 38psi with a hx40 on a similar setup. Tuning is key to keeping a stock longblock together at high boost.

thank you very much guys. what would you reccomend as the best tuning platform on a budget? would a simple safc suffice? ive also heard about ostrich and jackal but dont know much about tuning at all.. i am broke, but will be able to afford something soon (hopefully) for tuning. how much in all do you think it would cost to get something like ostrich in my car? im fully stock right now, but ive got a 2g maf, an intake, im ordering some 550 or 560cc injectors asap, and also have a 20g and a tubular manifold i plan to put on sometime. i was also thinking of dropping my cat and running open downpipe since i cant afford an exhaust.. would that gain power? im sure it would help bring down the spooltime on that 20g at least but im not sure.

All depends on what you are going to plan on making. If you aren't planning on boosting above 25psi with the 550cc injectors then a SAFC will work. If you have an eprom ecu, jackle/ostrich is a good alternative. More work involved but cheaper.

Boost is relative and arbitrary.

Is that going to be your new catch phrase LOL. Just saw you post that in the hx35 max boost threatd.

But yes, power is in the tune. Bad tune and you won't see good gains. Good tune and you can run the same psi but have higher numbers.

Cylinder pressure. I spiked to 40-45psi with the small 16g. It flows 38lb/min or 40ish on a good day. Cylinder pressure determines horsepower. Horsepower is what breaks parts. Boost pressure is miniscule compared to the cylinder pressure achieved. 20psi with one turbo or one motor build can have VASTLY different horsepower and hence peak cylinder pressure.
