I've tried to search forum and never came across a specific answer about upgrading brakes on stock gsx wheels. My plan is to upgrade my brakes to brembos, but I really want to keep my stock wheels. Could it be possible to make them fit with or w/o spacer???

I was just going to say, I don't know where these folks are getting their information from. Neither appear to own a GSX or it's wheels. Or have big brakes installed, for that matter. And I'm not trying to be a dick, but this information is not currently on DSMtuners and if it is true that they do not fit we (I) need to know why.

I've looked for such info and no one had it. And then bam! there you go, a shiny red Cayenne Red Pearl with brembos on stock 17's.

By the looks of it the clearance issues will be with the caliper, I think I can see a good .5"-1" gap between the wheel and the rotor. He may have used spacers, looks like the wheel is sitting a bit further out than normal.

I have brembos off of an evo 8 on my gsx and the stock gsx wheels will not fit over the calipers. I wonder if that cayenne red used spacers and how many. Ha. But op, they will not fit. I have tried it.

It seems that you're trying to indicate that some DSMer, out there, went through the trouble to mount it up for photos? Maybe you mean that it's only a brembo caliper and not an appropriate sized disc... naw couldn't be that either since it's clear from the photo that those are not stock rotors.

Thanks for the data point. I figured spacers would be required. Since you said you've tried this, how far off would you say it is? Would a 5mm do it? 10mm?

btw, 17" OEM wheel guys, these suckers weigh something like 25-27lbs each. Not the end of the world if you can't stuff even more weight into your wheels

the stock rotors are quite a bit smaller then evo 8 rotors though

That's how this mod works. Like you said, you use the brembo calipers (and bracket/knuckle) with an appropriately sized rotor.

hey guys im the owner of the red eclipse with brembos i used a 1-1/4 inch ADAPTER. not a spacer. for those who dont know how it works, an adpater has studs already on it, it bolts on to the hub, then comes out 1-1/4 inch farther out. i as like others wanted to keep the stock gsx rims. so if u do, used a 1-1/4 inch adapter. works great no problems.

and yes the are real brembo calipers and rotors all around from an evo 9

Hmm intersting. I never thought of that. Why didnt you use spacers just out of curiosity? Like i said, i was thinking around a 8mm spacer you would probably be able to fit the stock gsx rim on them. Never really heard of adapters. Do you have a picture of what they look like?

spacer WILL NOT WORK!. our stock studs are too short. they will not reach the rim. adapters are the best way to go in my opinion. i will post pics of an adaptor right now.

Of course the stud will be too short. Thats why someone suggested extended lug studs. Looks like the adapters would work, just not too sure how id like them on there. Seems like too much for it to go wrong. You have to bolt it to the lug nuts, then bolt the wheel to the adapter. Seems like it works though, i appreciate you informing us about that. I wasnt aware of the adapters.

Are the wheels noticeably farther out and have you had ANY problems with it? And, how good are those evo 9 Brembos?

No problems. They stick out as far as much as evo 9 rims so no worries. The brembos are definately a big difference. If it wasnt for these calipers, i would of hit a kid the other day going 25 on a residential street. Best upgrade to make on a 2g imo. Stock gst calipers suck

I'm amazed you found this thread. Glad you could contribute!

I also had an emergency, just last week, where my upgraded brakes saved me from a full on wreck @65mph. Can;t understand why I never bothered until recently. Brakes are one of the best "feel good" upgrades around.
