OK so I am contemplating buying a STM Forward Facing Turbo Manifold. Its an amazing piece of art and any company that is building stock block cars that run 9s gets my respect. Is anyone using this thing to daily drive? I know that there is no room to run an Air Filter and you have to run a smaller radiator and the idea of that really makes me nervous. Any first hand experience daily driving with this Manifold?

Thats not really meant for a DD setup. im positive you would destory a turbo in a matter of days with the comp inlet open to the air like it is meant to be. there are lots of other options that are geared towards a DD

I don't have experience with it, however, you shouldn't be worried with using a half radiator. Plenty of people have used the half sized radiators without problems.

The only issue I would see here is the fact you would want fresh air exposed to the compressor. There will be a higher change of something being sucked in with it setup properly unless you can manage to fit a filter on it while your DD and remove it at the track.

Water would be the other issue to consider whether it's a puddle or rain, neither will do any good going through the blades of a running turbo.

If you do decide getting it at least consider putting a velocity stack on the compressor inlet :thumb:

No first hand experience, but as far as the filter thng goes, theoretically couldn't you buy an oem filter (the square looking ones) and maybe build an adapter of sorts to hold it in front of the turbo?cut it to shape even, and just wedge it in there?

I wouldnt never drive a dd with out a filter... thats just asking for trouble.
Tracks are maintainted so you dont have a bunch of small rocks constantly shooting at your bumper. On the street that plus the fact that your turbo is sucking in already, means that your turbo probably would be lucky to last very long.

Here is Buschur's Bad Bish with a forward facing turbo kit with an Air Filter! Man I just wish I there was a forward facing manifold that could fit an air filter for DSMs. I am in the USAF and am PCSing to Hawaii in March and there is no point in building a race car because there are no drag strips there. So the car has to be a DD. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I just wish I could go all out. That STM manifold would be straight sex!

also i know Hawaii is very strict about modified cars

Actually they are not LOL. I thought they would be too but I did the research when I found out the Air Force was sending me there.
What is Checked in a Hawaii Vehicle Safety Inspection? | Answerbag
Pretty much a basic inspection. No emissions testing or anything. I am in Germany now and the inspections here are ridiculous. I never could get my 1G Talon legal. They hated my open dump wastegate, FMIC, Exhaust, pretty much anything aftermarket on the car. I had a 3 series BMW 325i that was slammed and they make me throw the stock suspension on to pass. After that i simply swapped it back out again LOL. So I am definitely looking forward to going back to the states.

HMMM... i have a friend over there that says they dont allow any modifications to cars. maybe i am remembering wrong

I'm sure they do a visual inspection and they probably dont allow mods, most states that dont have emission equipment required to preform inspections require a visual instead.

I could not pass inspection seeing I had no cat, so I slapped a hollow cat on, and wam, bam, thank you ma'm.

A lot of places go by if your vehicle is registered in that state. Its like that in California with the smog bs, I just kept my car registered in Wi and bypassed all the vehicle laws! :hellyeah:

Awesome Idea I didn't even think about that Ill keep the car registered in North Carolina. They just do a simple walk around inspection!

What are your goals with the car to make you think you need to spend that kind of bank on a front facing mani?

My goals so far = 400hp DD With the ability to make more later

HX35
Some T3 flange tube mani (still deciding which)
Full three inch cat-less mandrel bent exhaust. (still deciding which)
FIC 850cc Injectors
Either a ETS or Punishment racing FMIC setup.
Probably a 2G rod Evo 8 piston combo
Stock head with BC 272/272
Cosmetic Head Gasket
ARP Head Studs
ECMlink V3 (I have some experience with ECMlink from my 1g and I love it)

I am really just mass acquiring parts. I will put the car down when I feel I have everything and the time is right. I will do everything myself and do it right. I want a reliable dsm so no rush at all. Time and money is not an issue.

If your using an hx35 with the stock divided turbine housing, you'd def want to try and get a true divided t3 manifold. If your using say the t3 .70 A/R housing, then pretty much any good t3 manifold would be a good choice.
