edmonton,
so i picked up a fwd non turbo talon for 600 bucks and so far it has been working awsome, only thing is that the alternator is junk so i have been driving it with the alt giving the battery barely any charge.I usaully charge the battery every 2 days or so depending on how hot it is out because when the rad fans come on it is draining the battery.Anyways i was driving it all day on sunday and came home then went to go drive it again and it started then shut off after about 4 seconds so i thought the battery was dead.I charged it for about 4 hours on a fast charge and then tried it again same thing happned.I then charged the battery all night on a slow charge and it still didnt work,by now i was thinking it was the fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter. So i started it and held the key in the start position and it would run while constantly turning over,i gave it gas and it didnt seem to responsive but i figured it was because i was holding the key in the start position.I havnt got a new fuel filter yet but i dont think that is the problem im thinknig either soemthing really simple like some sort of short.I checked over all the fuses and everything and they seemed fine,is it possible that the car may need an alternator to run now that the alt is completly dead?I also get a yellow light that comes on right by the check engine light.Bought this as a project car for my gf so far it has been awsome just really annoying now that it is doing this.Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to consider using paragraphs in your posts from now on... I know the MODs don't really like it.

That said, it could be a lot of things that are causing this problem. I would start by fixing what you know is broken. Get a new alternator and install it. It is not that hard to do.

Next, I would check the alternator fuse under the hood. It is bolted down to the fuse block on both sides and very large (80 amps I think). If that is blown it could cause the yellow light to come on. Is your battery light on? If the fuse is blown it should be on.

I would start with the alternator though, and go from there.

So when I unplug the alternator the yellow light and battery light go off,and only the oil light stays on.

I put a litre of oil in the other day because the rear main seal leaks oil,so I dont know why the oil light is still on?

Also the alt fuse is 100 amp and its fine i went over all the fuses again with no luck of finding a bad one.

When I have the alternator plugged in the yellow light, battery light, and the oil light go on. I think the yellow light is supposed to represent a motor with lines going through it?

It is also a 91 talon
