1G Starting issues.

Hey guy. Need some help trying to start another 1G DSM project. There a couple issues that we are battling here. So we got this car with the previous owner claiming that it had a starter grind issue. We got the car and seen that the engine harness was pretty hacked up. So we grabbed another one from a member of the forums in good shape. Once we hooked it all up we attemped to start the car. We are getting a loud grind coming from the starter. So first thing we did was replace the starter with a new one. We are still getting the same issue. Previous owner said he installed a new clutch kit and replaced the ignition switch. So next were guessing possibly wrong flywheel. The starter will turn the flywheel it looks like one revolution but after doesnt engage the flywheel anymore. Now it is just sounding like the starter is just spinning inside itself. It doesnt sould like the gear is pushing out to grab the flyhweel. What else can we diagnose before we drop the trans and have a look at the flywheel? I'm kind of leaning towards it being some kind of electrical issue. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. we will double check on all of the ground connections tomorrow.

The car is definitely an electrical mess. I tried to use the fuel pump check connector by hooking it up directly to the battery to verify the fuel pump works and we got no power to the fuel pump. We did get the ISC motor making a noise when we put power to the fuel pump check connector. We also got the driver seat power seatbelt locking and unlocking????
