Starter problem

I have a 97 gst automatic for about 3 years now and have no problem with it. lately, though I've been having a problem starting the car with the key. If I start it with the key , it won't crank at all, sometimes I could hear the relay under the radio, but no crank. I have a scytec remote start alarm on it and will start without any problem when I use it. That's how I been starting the car the last few weeks. Do you think this has anything to do with the factory alarm because if the doors are locked and I open them with the key, it sets it off (horn starts going off) and I can't turn it since I don't have the factory remote anymore. Any one have this same problem? It's been driving me crazy trying to figure it out. Thank you.

It sure sounds like an alarm issue. Since the car will start with the remote start and not with the key...

will it bump start with the key?

It does not do anything when I turn the key but you could hear the relay under the radio clicking sometimes but not all the time. I also replaced the factory JBL radio with a pioneer.

It's one of the following: your aftermarket alarm (way they wired it in to starter and/or both existent starter relays), or a faulty ignition switch, or the starter relay, or the factory theft alarm starter relay.

How long as it been doing this sounds like igniton switch or more thsn likely starter relay because the remote start probably has a dofferent relay for starting check fuses basic diagnosis should eliminate some.
