Im working on my friends 1g, after i put the motor back in,tried to crank, and the starter wont crank the engine. (new battery starter harness are good). It will start spin if ill help to turn by the hand (crank pulley) What is the prob???? can a starter get to weak to not crank the engine? any suggestions would be great..

recheck the timing on the engine, it seems thats the prob, theres something in there not letting it cycle freely ie: valves hitting pistons.

You might have some stuff hooked up wrong. Recheck ALL your connections.

Tap a ground wire straight from the starter to the battery to see if it cranks over, sometime an old starter can have a faulty gear and not engage, if it starts it's your starter if it doesent it can be lots of things like timing etc, btw was your ignition timing set at 5 degrees?
