Starter doesnt engage flywheel

I did a auto to 5 speep swap on my 93 eclipse i. when i went to start it the starter spun but didnt touch the flywheel. I went and bought a new starter but im starting to think i might have got the wrong flywheel. my clutch lined up fine. I dont know what it is.

Well you didn't post many details like FWD or AWD. I'm assuming you had an auto FWD and switched to a manual FWD. If so you probably got a hold of an AWD flywheel.

EDIT: Post more info. Is turbo or NA, is it FWD or AWD.

Was there a spacer/collar behind the flexplate?

It is not required with the manual transmission flywheel.

I'm having a similar problem with my 96 Eclipse. I just did an engine swap and have it all set to go except that the starter pops out and spins without engaging the flywheel. The flywheel that was on the car had the numbers 63NK on it and the flywheel on the replacement engine has the numbers 63TEK. Do these mean anything?
