I have a 95 gst and I dropped the tranny to change clutch and flywheel. After I put everything back on I went to start the car up and the starter just spins, I tested the starter and the bendix is fine and it spins just fine. I went under the car to see if I could see through where the bottom part of flywheel is shown and I look up to the starter and had someone turn the switch and the starter gear/piñón pushed out and wasn’t grabbing the flywheel it looked like if it was just spinning on top of the flywheel. What could this be? this is my first could I have bought the wrong flywheel ? Or put somthing on wrong? Btw I but the shin plate back to where it goes could I get some help.

Did you buy a new flywheel? IIRC the awd/GSX flywheel is smaller diameter and won't work in a fwd/GST.

If the Bendix is kicking out and spinning, but not engaging the flywheel, then I suspect you have either the wrong fkywheel, starter, or shim plate. It sounded like you only changed the flywheel though.

I put a awd flywheel on from rock auto the flywheel is a platinum driveline PDL FW554. I thought the fwd and awd where the same because both flywheels they had said for awd and my old flywheel is on rock auto but another brand I just got the more expensive because I don’t like to go to cheap on parts

The all-wheel-drive flywheel is a smaller diameter due to the transfer case output shaft occupying space in the same area. You will have to get a front wheel drive turbo flywheel for your application. The clutch kit for both FWD turbo and AWD turbo is the same, only the flywheels and starters are different.
