I am trying to figure out if there is any part of this website that will help me tune my 1988 Starion 2.6T. If anyone knows where I can look please let me know. Or if there isn't to much on this site can someone point me in the right direction.
Thanks.

right off the bat i own 2 of these. it seems the plug for the mas sensor is not correct, or seated or somthing wrong with it. if it is not connected it will do exactly what you described.

go to www.tristarion.com or www.starquestclub.com for more help.

My friend's out of town this week but I'll let him know. I told him I thought it was a mas sensor prob., but just by toying with the plug nothing obvious happened to make it suspicious

okay so im driving in the GS-T today and i see this interesting car in the parking lot across the street for sale....bright red. I was like hmm and right away i was like holy SH**T its a freaking starion. so i go look at it. well it was actually a conquest but hey its all the same, 58k orig. miles the widebody style. its an 88 5 speed. He is asking 3k so what u guys think? I hear these cars run bout 15.3ish stock and are really held up by the exhaust and turbo. from what i read on starquestclub.com the turbo is like T25size ish like a 14g or something?? Anyways i am in need of a decently cheap car, i gotta sell the scion and i really miss RWD. i heard they can be beasts, but what you guys think bout them and do they have some potential and aftermarket? oh one more thing that worries me. i read that they are TBI and not MPI so no DOHC huh?

A friend of mine has a 88 conquest, with a 19c i believe, 3'' turbo back and upgraded ic piping, as well as an avc-r. It runs fairly well and i think they look awesome. I say go for it, they are rather rare and hard to find in good condition.

i used to have an 88 starion and it was a real fun though it was an a/t car. and from what i understand their trannies bolt to a 4G...i'm trying to find one myself. just with that kinda mileage it's probably worth it. just make sure the cooling system is in good repair. they tend to burn out fan relays, overheat and do head damage due to the jet valves the car has. a jet valve is a throw back to emissons hell that were the 70's and 80's. as long as the car hasn't overheated you're fine. hella fun car. looks SO awesome.

conquests are definatly fun cars... Friend of mine has one with the turbo aprox the size of a big 16g and the car hauls major ass...

wow I've never even heard of that kind of car. I did a search though and they look pretty sexy :thumb:

yea, the 1g's were based off of them, in body design anyway. there a 2.6 (or 2.8 i cant remember?) turbo 4cylinder, they do have quite a bit of torque in them.

Just hope you never haver to get at anything behind the dash... Started taking it out yesterday, still putting back together now. Everything has to come out in order to get at anything back there. The only thing I have done on that car that was easy is fill it up with gas. But yeah, I guess it's a cool car in a retro 80's sort of way.

damn, are you at least 16 years old? you making me feel old just by me knowing what a starion/conquest is.

the starion is the car that they based FEELS WIDE BODY KITS from.

no I'm only 19. I'm still new to this game though OMG

yah, il try to get a pic. its red wide body w/grey interior...looks really nice on the outside, straight no chips on the paint orig. wheels everything is all stock...but whats bothering me is the engine...i heard they are so hard to work on, and parts repair and aftermarket are not an easy find...and whats up w/the head? is it SOHC tbi or what is it??

yes it's a tbi set up with 2 injectors. 1 primary and 1 secondary injector. the problem that is related to this setup is that you get pooling in the bottom of the intake manifold, because some of the spray pattern washes down the throat of the intake plenum and sits there at the bottom, giving irratic idle. the head problem is that it has jet valves. a jet valve is a little valve that sits closer to the plug, and allows a richer part of the mixture to be kept close to the plug, kinda like a stratified charge head. the problem with this is that when the car overheats (caused by faulty fan relays), as you know everything expands. when the head COOLS the aluminum of the head cools faster than the iron seat of the valve, and the head cracks around the seat, again no good. so as long as the car hasn't overheated you should be in there like swim wear.

I am always on the lookout for a good condition Starion or Conquest. Realize the ECU setup is basically different for every year, as well there were pretty big differences from year to year which makes some parts impossible to interchange. If the car has good compression and has a good cooling system, you should buy it.

hahahaha, I'm with you man, I've known about this car forever, ever since my mom had her 85 Galant and I saw the Starions in the showroom, I was about 5 or 6 at the time but I liked it then and still do to this day.

anyways, the mileage seems to be nice on that Starion, if it's in pristine condition I'd say it might actually be worth that price tag

So yea..my best friend just bought one...It's in "PERFECT" Condition!! What do you guys know about them? Thoughts....dan

P.S.- DSM is broke again..>WOO WOO!!! that what not even 2 1/2 weeks...damn i'm good!

i know that no BOV is a dumb idea on a turbo car and 8 valves suck. i also know a 2.6 4 cylinder is huge and a decent size front mount...stock..is kinda cool, along with being RWD...and, a 1g MAF is an upgrade, if that means anything. LOL
