I am trying to figure out if there is any part of this website that will help me tune my 1988 Starion 2.6T. If anyone knows where I can look please let me know. Or if there isn't to much on this site can someone point me in the right direction.
Thanks.

if the car was totally stock. just by adding the 3 inch exhaust you get 50 HP and 75 ft lbs tq. at the wheels.

while i dont doubt it makes a noticable difference, 50hp and 75tq at the wheels, sounds pretty far fetched

actually if you add a 3" and turn the boost up to like 14lbs you will get about 70-80horse more and no its not far fetched the g54b was severly chocked by the exhaust and as some of us know the turbo engine really likes to breath so trust me 50 hp is actually a little low

If your looking to learn mechanics, check your local community collages for schools, sometimes tehy have openings and stuff that you can attend. Im still in highschool, and am in our vocational AST (automotive service and technology), our senior year, we get to goto the community collage across the street from our school, and can take classes to be certified.

If thats not going to help, research, get books from the libary, I find working on cars kind of fun, so I dont have a problem reading automotive books, and join messageboards and just read the tech forums and problem forums, you will learn what is what, etc. Just dont get too stressed out.

I know exactly what you are talking about, I love cars but right now im trying to get my bachelors in computer science/information systems, i've got 18hrs of class next semester but im looking into doing the autotech program if i can afford it at a neighbouring school during the summer starting in 05. I love cars i just wish i knew more, or how to apply what i do know in real life.

Yeah i always wonder though if the G54B is so great why do they do 4g63 swaps? If i do indeed get the car i probably wouldnt do anything except exhaust and up the boost for a year, I just look at them and quite frankly i think they are classics and i want to get one while i have the chance.

well being a current member in the starquest comunity the 4g63 swap is not all that common but the advantage would be a dohc head something that we dont have right yet but they are cool and very fun to drive and the handle as good as a porsche 944 and they are very modable just do some researchand here is a few of my favorite pics

To the Modderators: I hope this is ok I just want to give this guy a point of reference

well thats not just because of the exhaust then. One could crank the boost on any turbo car and increase the HP then throw on a good exhaust to open it up some more but that 50hp or so gain over stock isn't because of the exhaust, its because of the cranked boost. Say you bumped it up to said 14psi or so on the stock exhaust and got 40 more hp, then put the exhaust on and dyno'd 20hp more, I wouldn't go around saying i gained 60hp with just an exhaust, would you?

anyone can put anything down in this world. but io can probably get pics of thedyno sheets that show the increase. i was just offering some good info on the quest and a place to go for help

Ok fellow tuners, here's the situation. One of my co-workers bought a 88 Conquest TSI. The car is bone stock with over 100k. He's replaced the fuel filter, plugs, wires, exhaust manifold, distributer, and a few other small parts. Here's the issue.

It idles rough, but rev's ok with clutch in or in neutral. Put the car under load, and it falls on it's face at 0 psi on the boost gauge and just won't go (like barely runs). I've checked all the normal DSM issues, but if you've seen under the hood of these cars, they're a different beast than our cars.

The funniestt thing is, the car ran ok before the car had all the new parts, not great, but ok. He thinks the turbo's done, but I don't know if the turbo itself would cause the problem. Any ideas?? Any questions that would help you help us, let me know. Thanks in advance. :thumb:

make sure the injector clips are on the correct injector, one easy way to check this out is to start car and let idle then at idle remove the injector clip off of the BLACK injector if it dies then they are correct if it still runs then they need to be swapped the black is the primary the green or blue is the secondary and the car should idle off of the primary

to reitterate the 3" from KDM will give these cars at least 60hp thats on the stock engine and turbo with the boost turned up it becomes a little more like 80 but the 3" will make this starquest a heavy contender to your dsm and stock for stock they are no match I once raced a 2g stock awd and beat it all the way over 100 then we shut down ok that is life live with it, it doesnt mean that one car is better than an other it just means that the starquest is a sportscar and the 1,2 and 3rd gens were tamed a little so everyone would be able to use them everyday for several hundred thousand miles, Would I own a dsm Ofcourse do I love the starquest sure do,

I'll check that for him tomorrow, we're stumped at this point. Those things have so many wires and vacuums running everywhere. Thanks for the info :thumb:

i love those cars. i had one but never got around to modding it thanks to the wonderful cops towing my car for no reason. the tow company ripped an oil line off the bottom and when i started it up it started ticking real bad. that was the end of that car

G54B its a 2.6 ltr with a 12a mitsu turbo and a 5spd close ratio tranny and limited slip rear end they made the car from 83 to 89 and in 85.5 they made a wide body version all prior to that were flat sides. they came stock with speed sensitiove wipers automatic electronic hvac. leater was standard and cloth was an option. the hp numbers for the 88-89 were 188hp and 218 lbft of tq maybe a little more cant remember but the cars are so stinking fun to drive imagine doing a tailout slide or a drift whenever you want with very little stress on anything fully independant sus, discs on all 4 corners and rear abs in the late 80's that was not common
