Stalling issues, but restarts after sitting to cool

Its happened a couple of times on me in my 95 eclipse non turbo of course. After the first time I wanted to clean up the car due to me just getting it and being an used car. So far i had replace the intake gaskets, MAP, IACV, PCV, throttle body gasket, and injector o-rings. After that stalling it still would not start so it lead me to replace the crankshaft position sensor, also did wires and sparks plugs then it fired right up and lasted going to short trips. Just the other day i drove about 30 minutes and it just stall out on me. No weird sounds and it was quick kill to the engine. It would not start again after letting it sit for about an hour it just started and was able to make it home. I've being trying to figure out what would cause it to stall and after cooling it would start again. also there is no CEL

Next time it won't start when hot, either spray down or ice the fuel rail.

what will that tell me by doing that ?

The fuel in your fuel rail could be getting overly hot, causing what is known as vapor lock. Is your fuel line near anything that could be getting it hotter than it should be?

Do you have any check engine lights on? My friend had a 420A Talon that did something similar for a long time, ended up being the crank or cam sensor dropping signal after the engine got hot. I cant remember which.

Check all your injector cables. My 1G 2.0 non turbo was doing this. One of the cables connected to the injector wasn't connected all the way and it was causing my engine to stall. Doesn't hurt to check all the little things.

Not to sure about the 420a's,but my gst was doing this and it ended up being the coolant temp sensor.Replaced it and never had the problem again.

I was thinking it could have been a bad relay or ecm.

Crankshaft Position Sensor
Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
MAP Sensor
PCV
Just Replaced Fuel Pump Relay


I Might try replacing the cam position sensor and the coolant temp sensor

Just do a quick check on your throttle cable, make sure its not loose. If its not that check around your air intake, make sure there are no leaks. If there was any type of air escaping it would shut off occasionally. Had that issue before on a customer car

Have you changed the fuel filter since you got it, or know when it was last changed?

replaced that with an wix fuel filter not to long ago, also went thru and tested for boost leaks and did not find any

Make sure the fuel strainer on the fuel pump itself isn't clogged/clogging up?

Edit - If you have, or after you do, then start checking all the stuff listed by the others.

Good luck, these cars are a pain in the nuts. But when they are working they are worth it.

Try having your GST you just dumped 5 grand into have to get towed out of a Mcdonalds parking lot....., after you just drove through the drive thru and got food.(EVENBETTER) hahah..:[ Yeah , car overheated due to the lack of my broken fan. Wouldn't start back up(to protect the engine the car won't allow it to stay running I guess). But I am curious to see how you deal with this issue, please post more as you get into it!

100% agree on this post. These cars take a special type of person. If you don';t like projects these cars aren't usually the car you should get into

just replace Cam position sensor, and drive for about for a couple hours with no issues at all
