I am interested in getting one of these. The quality looks to be a bit better with the VR-speed one, but I am wondering if anyone has done a comparison to see if one cools(IAT) better than the other, or if its roughly the same.

From what I have read about the SSAC FMIC is that there is better cores at a higher price, but I've decided that for my goals the SSAC/VR-speed FMIC should work very well.

the SSAC kit is $245 the VR-speed is $320. and obviously price is a factor for me, which is why I am buying a core that costs less than the $900-$1200 cores/kits.

I found some logs with IAT for the SSAC and it looked pretty good, but I could not find any for the VR-Speed and I would like to compare the two as much as I can to better choose between the two.

I have the VRSF and am very pleased with it. I do not have the over heating issue some members get from putting on a large FMIC. I have the first design for the 2g which was a bit of a hassle to put on. The redesigned kit is supposed to be much easier with the install.

id like to know this aswell. im in your same boat! but i here you will end up spending just about the same money. cause the ssac kit is missing a coupler 2 tbolts, mounting bolts,etc.. and needs hacking to piping(hotside) to "bolt" on. i think ima just go with vr-speed. for a much less, hassle free install. :)

there's a member here who did a comparison on both said IC kits. i dont recall how much he went into it but i'd advise doing a quick search. i have a VRSF kit and i like it.

The VR-Speed comes with all the parts needed for the install, aluminum piping, and customer support.

Easily worth the extra cost. This coming from someone who's had the SSAC one for years now.

i have the vr-speed kit as well and have never had a problem with it. the only thing i wasn't happy with was the way that the throttle body elbow sat blocking one of the lower bolts on the throttle body. but other than that i couldn't be happier with the kit.

We also get this question quite a bit and rather than typing everything up I'll just copy my last reply:

"The kits are actually very different. Not only are the included couplers and tbolts different, but the quality of the kit as well. We've also completely redesigned every pipe in the kit in terms of length to make the kit an actual bolt affair rather than having to cut or modify each pipe as well as the core for everything to line up.

The piping in the ebay/ssauto kit is too long in some places and too short in others, the intercooler inlet is too long and the mounting brackets are too low which will cause a gap between the front bumper and the core and will cause the piping to hit your oil filter housing. The generic ssauto/ebay kits require about 5 – 6 hours worth of customization which will cost you a lot more time & money as well as additional parts. The VRSF core used in this and our intercoolers were custom made to our specifications which allows air to pass through the intercooler while still providing great cooling to prevent overheating. Our upper intercooler pipe is also redesigned to easily allow you to switch bov flanges with our exclusive modular bov mount design.

Attached is a dyno comparison of our kit with our custom core in comparison to another very popular 2g FMIC kit. The only changes made were the FMIC, no tune.

After you factor in how much you have to spend in terms of extra parts the cost will be about $20 difference between the kits. I'd pay an extra $20 bucks to know I don't have to machine my bov and tb flange flat, modify the core & pipes which will increase potential boost leaks due to lack of beads on the pipe ends and deal with overheating issues in the summer. :)

Plus the fact that the SSAUTO kit looks goofy mounted 3" too high (if you use the fog holes to mount the core) and you'll have a huge gap between the bumper and the core.

I have the VRSF kit and its awesome! I was also looking at getting the SSAC before but I got this kit and couldn't be happier. It fits good and cools amazingly. Haven't drivin the car in the summer yet so I don't know it will do but it isn't my daily driver so im not too worried. Totally worth the 60$ difference.
