Well Im coming home from school today and everything is all good, i jsut installed dsmlink last night and im thinking im on my way to tuning fun for the next few days. well i pull into my neighborhood and i stop at a stop sign and go to pull of from the light and when i hit about 3k rpms i hear this, clankclinkclunkclank......oh no. So I pull into my court and i put it in neutral and blip the throttle, as soon as it hits between 2.5k and 3k, same thing clankclinkclunkclank. So now Im about to go outside and drain and drop the pan and inspect but I know what im going to find, I spun a bearing, I know it.

Well hopefully you're right. Considering it could be crankwalk, a spun bearing is minor. the same thing happened to me and I found out that it was crankwalk. Which in turn netted me an evoIII motor for 1k. So all in all its not too bad. Something good comes out of everything bad. Good luck in your venture. I hope its something minor. :thumb:

Hopefully it's just minor damage. When my car spun a rod bearing it ended up bending 4 valves, damaging a piston, gouging the crank, and dispersing metal all throughout my engine :toobad: . Fortunatly I have found it as a wonderful excuse to build up my engine with forged internals and full supporting mods :D . If the damage is extensive just try to get a reliable beater to drive around while you can build up your engine. Good luck.

I just got a new head put on this damn thing, along with fresh everything on the timing belt side of the motor. And when i drained my oil I didnt see any shavings, is it possible that i still spun a rod bearing just that since i didnt drive it but maybe 2 minutes after it happened that there isnt really any metal floating around? Dont scare me with the crankwalk thing, i dont have any of the symptoms of it, so i really dont think its crankwalk. But now im worried since I didnt find any shavings in my oil, I havent dropped the pan yet, too cold and dark right now.

either way you're going to have to take the motor out, so just inspect it yourself.

and gsxtacy is right IMO, you can buy a nice 6 bolt for <200 and rebuild it for < 1000, just reuse your head

you can do that, but your going to want to check the crank for damage, check the block, rods and also oil clearances to see why the bearing went out!
good luck

Its so not worth it to try and fix what is broken though.

Keep on the lookout for a complete broken 1ga DSM and rape the crap out of one when you find one. You can buy broken complete cars for less than the individual pieces you'll need and you can recoup some of your money with good used parts sales.

I know I have needed/bought a few sets of stock injectors, a BOV or two, some piping, a radiator fan once, a lower timing belt cover, ARP studs, and it goes on and on the good deals that are out there.

IMHO though don't worry about the 7 bolt if you intend on keeping the car. If you intend to keep it and enjoy it more, build a 6 bolt, do the whole job right, and you'll have thousands of easy maintanence miles ahead of you instead of on going breakage, and much stress and $$$$$.

I am but i dont have the time, money or means to do so right now, im 17 im in school, i need this car for daily transportation. I am on the lookout for a 6-bolt to build up in my garage and to swap in. But I cant go without a car while I build one. And can anyone answer my question to if those bearings will work?
