i spun a rod bearing after the oil leaked out of the oil pan from a bad gasket. i was wondering what all i should do to the engine and if you guys could help me find an affordable solution to rebuilding it.

well.....that sucks! cheapest thing..buy a running engine from a donor car, then rebuild your engine to what you want. you could still drive your ride, and know it will soon be faster, stronger, and better......or, pull the engine, dismantle it, take your rods to be reconditioned, you spun a bearing....absolute must do, grind the crank, and freshen the rings and cylinders machinist. your machinist can measure your pistons and cylinders and give you an informed opinion.

Once you get it to the shop they will fill you in on what needs to be done, and costs, wait pull it, take it to the shop, and youll know, so many variables too soon to say,

yeah pretty much all of my oil leaked out and idk. i just checked it the day b4 so i thought i was ok.

but on another note. do you guys know of a good but affordable rebuild kit? i want to go thru the entire engine and upgrade it so i can run a turbo. im just having a lil but of a problem finding rebuild kits

going through the same thing right now definitely better off buying a running engine and rebuilding on the side if u want too. you could also look for a used short block just be careful make sure your buying off of someone reputable. you can look at jdm imports there's a few that are reliable just read reviews cause theres a few import companies that send out bad engines good luck!!

im not in any hurry to get it running right now. so im not gonna buy another engine. i just want to have it up and running in 2-3weeks possibly. just gotta need a lil help finding pistons and rods that will handle a turbo that dont cost a fortune.

thanks for the link. but im trying to do the rebuild for $1000 or less i cant afford those $500-600 pistons right now

im not putting a turbo on yet. its gonna be a few months. i just want to get the internals ready for a turbo but im not gonna run a big turbo im gonna keep it under 10 psi

and im guessing that i should get new rods/pistons to handle the turbo that i plan to put on in the future. and where can i get parts from bryanwheat? this is a budget build.

Budget built and turbo on a 420a don't really go together. You need some aftermarket rods and pistons in my opinion. Some people do it with stock parts but i wouldn't. IF you just want to do a stock rebuild than find the ebay store called mizzumo. You can get a kit with pistons, rings, bearings and gaskets for like 250 dollars. I would go with a gates belt and timing components and an oem oil pump. You will also need a rod to replace the one with the spun bearing which can be bought for around 30 bucks. For machine work you are looking at around 100 for boring and honing, 50 for cleaning and 100 to turn the crank. You can usually even get away with re using the pistons and just honing the block if you are trying to save money. You just need to verify that the piston to wall clearance is still in spec and the pistons aren't damaged. Id you go that route you will save around 200 bucks not having to buy pistons and bore the engine.

DSMGraveyard provides a custom rebuild kit you can pick and choose your rods pistons ect..

sorry not dsm graveyard heres the link its jdm imports

Mitsubishi Eclipse GST/ GSX 6 Bolt 4G63, 4G63T DSM Engine Block Rebuild Kit

You can get the same rebuild kit if not better at https://cimotorsports.x-shops.com/motor-sport-products/build-your-own-eclipsetalon-420a-engine-rebuild-kit.html
It will be cheaper from what I see.

Oppss sorry had the wrong link there for a min

bryan its not a 420a its a 4g63. and does anyone know if the stock eclipse gs pistons can handle up to 10 psi of boost?

So this is a 1g non turbo then? It will help you out in the future to post said car because your listed car is a 2g n/t. Just buy some npr turbo pistons on ebay. They are only 100 bucks and will handle 400+ horsepower with a good tune. They fit right on the rods in your engine. That one change will turn your engine in to a turbo engine without the oil squirters. It will be fine without the squirters if you are not out beating the hell out of it all day long. Also for future reference when you put it back together there is no gasket for the oil pan, it is just a bead of rtv.

That sounds good to me. Wish my rebuild was only going to cost that.

The cheapest pistons in that kit are 200 dollars and they are topline. He can buy npr pistons, rings and acl bearings for around 150. 200 for just pistons is absurd. With that kit, for the cheapest pistons, rings and bearings you are going to spend 300 dollars.

Very true. I am replacing everything on the lower half of my engine but the block.
The bearing I had spin left metal all over in the oil pan.

n/t pistons have different compression ratios, so i dont understand what pistons you want to use to go turbo later on.. and dont forget that you will need to at least pressure test your head, and get a new head gasket.. but i agree it can be done under $1000 WITHOUT the turbo.

i was wrong abt what engine it is. sorry guys my brain is on other things and im not thinking straight, thats why im on here to get everything straight and good to go. it is a 420a. so can i get lower compression pistons? or can i just run the pistons i have or replacements of what i have with a turbo? not gonna run 8-10psi max. only 6 most of the time.
