well i just got my car back from 2 weeks of not having tires, since one blew out on the way home...I got free stock GST rims and tires from BoostedinSoFla..greatly appreciated. Anyway.. he point in this thread is to find out why my turbo doesn't sound the same, like the spooling sounds different now??..Why would that happen ?...Any ideas?

Check for loose piping and oil lines. If you have a leak in your piping it can make a funny noise, and if your turbo is dying because its not getting the proper oil supply it could make a noise. But like daren_p said it will be easier to diagnose with a better description.

spool sound changed when i upgraded exhaust, intake, fmic... type stuff no my car... just cause you can actually hear it more.

ok more explination..sorry for that first one, i was kinda in a hurry to go some where..i received new wheels with tires..In getting those I put them on the car as soon as i put them on the car and i drove off i noticed that the spooling of my turbo had changed, The sound that it used to make sounded like when and air compressor lets out air but now it sounds like a low pitch super charger whine...im not sure if you guys understand what im trying to say. Some people have told me it could be because the tires are new, but i think to myself. What do the tires have to do with the turbo

Also i checked everything pipes and oil lines, nothing is wrong except for one thing. the plastic piece around the stock BOV between the actual BOV and the hole to put it in, that plastic piece ripped in half...coud that be the source of the problem ?....its like a little miniature boost leak.

I know the supercharger whine noise in most cases means the compressor wheel is hitting the sides. Could be a boost leak though. I really don't see any reason why changing the wheels would effect the turbo. Must just be coincidence unless wherever you brought it to took it for a nice long joy ride and blew the turbo.
Why not pop the intake pipe off and check the turbo for any shaft play. If there is excessive shaft play then that is most likely your problem. If that doesn't show anything then it's time for a boost leak test. Also check for oil in the intake pipe and lower intercooler pipe also. Those would be signs that the seals are blown in the turbo. Is it a stock turbo you have on your car? How many miles?

Check your BOV, if you are using any sort of aftermarket BOV it may be leaking under boost. My freind had the same problem a few days ago, he had a knock off SSQV. The BOV would whistle like a supercharger under boost. The diaphram had seperated inside the BOV without warning. If possible hold your hand over the relief side of the bov while the car is at idle. If the idle changes at all then you have found your problem.

the diaphram is when you look inside ?..the pieces that move when the BOV makes the noise correct ?

I bought the turbo of here, the guy told me it had 30k miles on the turbo. I don't believe its blown. Reason being is because i just changed it. Maybe there is oil, in the piping I can check thought. As for the shaft play i will get right back on it and see if there is any. Any chance that i should change my oil. Because prior to this i think i put 2 diff. types of oil......Would the mechanic revving your engine alot be equal to that long joy ride your reffering to ?...Im gonna go check everything that you guys told me about and ill be back on in about 15 minutes.

alrite i just checked the turbo for shaft play, there is none. I checked the diaphram, its not broken. I do believe there is some oil in the piping. This is what I said is broken.

Did you experience any loss of power, idle problems, bad gas mileage, burning oil, or is the car running extremely rich?

The sound you're describing usually indicates one of two problems, a blown turbo or a major boost leak. Since you already checked your shaftplay and it felt good, we can assume your turbo is still good. More than likely meaning you have a boost leak.

You should do a boost leak test......

As far as oil in your intake path, as long as you keep dumping your valve cover breather back into your intake, you will always have oil in your intake/intercooler path.......

You should clean your intercooler at the same time, to get rid of any excess oil.....
