On the back of the tranny under the throttle body kinda you will see a cable going into it. Unscrew it and look to see if the little rod in it broke.. if so time for a new one.

Alot of things can cause the speedometer to stop. Both fwdturbo and DSMstatus are right, but the problem may not be as apparent either. The speedometer sensor that the gear in the tranny feeds into could be shot altogether. Also, because of the way 2g gauges are set up (i.e. very little mechanical action... the speedometer is controlled via electronics instead of a speedometer cable) there is a lot of room for something electronic to go wrong, or something in the gauge itself. However, I recommend checking and/or replacing the speedometer sensor first.

I'm having the same exact problem. Except my speedo moves with my boost. When I floor it and build boost, the speedo drops straight to zero. When I let off and coast or drive in vacuum, the speedo reads almost perfect. What gives? Any ideas?

ok when i put my tranny in, there was a cable with a plug in the end that i connected to the tranny under the tb, if i remove the battery i could squeze my hand to it from the passanger side.. is it that??

Hey defiant thanks alot, i do rememeber thinking to myself when i put that plug in, "why is it so loose", i didnt hear a click when i put it in it kinda just fell into place. thanks, big help i am pretty shure its that, ill get back the the thread with an answer. Defiant one more thing, i know why i am restricted from posting in certain forums, but this has been going on for a while like 5 months!. and i think i learned my lesson, but its starting to get annoying to post all my problems on the newb section, see when i have a tranny problem i have to post it in the newb section and i get in trouble for that, you get me? well a little of freedom back would be great. :D . thanks alot

Not on a 2G. Electronic, no cable. :shhh:

Oops, didn't read that right, I thought he meant the shaft ("rod") from the gear feeding into the sensor... :coy:

its probably bound. as simple as that. spray some wd40 or somethin down in there to help unbind it.

OR just buy a new cable for a small amount of money. if that doesnt work, you probably have a broken gear inside the speedo housing (the gears are plastic.... GRRRR)

i DOUBT it has anything to do with your tranny.... although that is always a possibility.

Let me try yet again.

2G SPEEDOS HAVE NO CABLE TO BIND.

my speedo and trip quit working,....so i was messing around with that plug that defiant mentioned....it was plugged in but...i pulled out the gear that its plugged into...and that was stripped out..25 bucks and it was fixed:)

No luck i checked and it wasnt that, i played with it and no luck, now i have a far more severe problem with my car check my other thread.. :coy:
