Hello everyone. First of all, I have a 420a that has megasquirt on it. All of my gauges work (rpm, gas, temp, oil press...etc). My millege and trip stopped working when I went to the gas station and I hit the reset button. I drove off a good three miles down the road and the trip said 0000. I then paid attention to my millege and the same with this. I am very familiar with these cars. However, the intrument cluster I am not. Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed. Have a great day.

Is the SES light on?
Just need to know if the speed sensor circuit is at fault.
You can test for a VSS signal on terminal 14 of the 16 pin (OBD II) diagnostic connector.
It will be a pulsing voltage with the vehicle in motion.
If not....
The speedo & odometer are driven with electric motors.
Quite possible the odometer motor or it's connections are the problem as long as the speedometer is working.
But both not working could be a bad connection. Could also be the speedo itself :(

Take the cluster out & disassemble it, it's kinda self explanatory once you get in there.

The SRS light is on. It has been on for almost a year. I am unsure if the light being on has anyting to do it. At times the brake light appears. This has been going on before the megasquirt.

Brake fluid is topped off and the plug is in. I triple checked it LOL. btw off subjec but what causes a car to pull hard (boosted) and then seem sluggish? I did a cc and the numbers are 150 and the boost test revealed a few bubbles but they were there previously.

SRS stands for "street racing syndicate" it just means your car is ready to go faster. It's actually a good thing.

..

All joking aside though it's probably just a loose plug somewhere in the line of the speed sensor. The speed and mileage count are related. I wouldn't take your cluster apart it seems silly to do that unless you need to. Double check the cluster is plugged in the back and that there is no loose or bent terminals. Verify your VSS is inserted fully into the tranny, and the electrical connector. Clean the electrical connector. If that doesn't solve it troubleshoot the VSS, cluster or just replace them.

Now I have a break from work. I would like to get the speedo working. IF someone could break down a simple easy to do list that I can check off as I go. From easy to hardest. I need to know how many voltage etc...thank you in advance...

So I unpluged the vvs. I checked the supply wire (5+) and im getting 4.94 volts. On the ground Im getting 12.90. The signal wire I am unsure to check. How do I run my own wires? Can I just hook up an power supply going to the senor, a ground and then run the signal wire to the back of the cluster hook up? I noticed that when I hook up a certain wire with another from megasquirt, the mph will read 5mph. However, this rarely happens. I also saw that the milliage had 6/10 of a mile when I drove 2 miles. This stopped. How can I fix this?
