Hi guys, Im having problems with the speedometer (on my 95 Eclipse RS manual tranny)...I research a little and found out that I need to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor. So I replaced it but nothing happened. I took off the sensor and I moved with the fingers, the speedo went up and down, ok so I connected the sensor again and we had a test drive, once again, nothing happened. So we where thinking what was wrong and found out that the plastic gear that goes attached to the sensor has some wear...this could be the problem? :hmm:

I called to Autozone and Advance and they dont have it, where can I get this thing?

Thanks. :)

look into the hole the sensor came out of and look at the gear inside the tranny make sure its there and looks ok

I took off the plastic gear, I got it in my hand and has some wear at the bottom.

I need to know ASAP if the plastic gear is the same type/size on a 2000 car? Or I need the 95 part?

How does the gear come out. Mine just died on the highway, and i have yet to test the speedo by spinning with drill / fingers but here's a wierd symptom, my speedo doesn't work but my odometer rolls over slowly (for every 10 or so miles, I get 1 mile on my odometer.

I have a 95 Talon esi with the same issue.
I replaced the VSS with no luck. I tried to spin it slowly with a drill, and the speedometer and trip meter work fine.

I looked down into the hole and saw a piece of red plastic. Tried to retrieve it but it slipped out of sight. So that means I have no gear at all, and the remains of the old one are in the tranny.

Is it safe to just let the old piece get chewed up and clean the filter fluid later?
Where can I find just the gear?

Last question. There seems to be differeing opinions on whether the gear clips on the VSS and slips down into the top hole, or whether you have to drop the tranny.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My goodness! I'm in the same damn boat!
I need that little plastic gear and have no idea where to find it. I have been search the internet for days trying to find it, can someone please help a newbie out here.
