Speed control on clutch MC or no?

When I went to autzone to get a new clutch maser cylinder they asked if I needed one with speed control or not. The price of one with is double the price as one with out.

Is it really needed to have one with out speed control if your car does not have cruise control?

From what I can tell there is zero difference in the spring, clips, or adjusting rod between the two and the price seems to be the only difference.

Is it just some BS scam they are doing or is the master actually different?

Looks like it's a different sized reservoir used between the two -- according to the pictures on AZ's website. With cruise control, it's a taller reservoir; without cruise it's a shorter reservoir. Also appears this was a 1990 only thing and Mitsubishi got wise and decided to save some money by using the tall reservoir on all models thereafter. According to ASA, the short reservoir was never used in AWD models, either.

If you aren't in any real hurry, buy the one without cruise control and try swapping your current reservoir onto it. If it doesn't work (and I don't see why it wouldn't), you can take it back and get the right one. If it does, you got the cheap option.

Alternatively, you could buy the master cylinder kit and just rebuild the one you have. All up to you.

EDIT: Alas, this isn't the first time this has been brought up. For reference: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/277253-clutch-master-cylinder.html

Thanks, for your help.

I was also wondering if that would cause the clutch to not feel bled all the way or if i just bled it wrong. I also had a bad slave so I'm exchanging that so if it won't work ill pay the difference for the right part. I was pretty sure they were selling me the wrong part but they said I was wrong.

It's my fault though I should have gone with what I was thinking rather than listen to some guy at autozone.

For those interested the slave I replaced failed after 200 miles. I was replacing the master because it also showed signs of being faulty.

I wish Napa was closer to my house!

I'd like to add. I just replaced the slave with one that isn't complete crap and the car still isn't getting full hydraulic pressure.

I'm pretty sure this might be because of the damn master cylinder.

Just to update the 1990 only used a different master for the cruise and noncruise versions. The difference is the lenght of the clylinder itself as well as the amount of fluid it holds.

So no they do not work on each other.
