yea so my cars got like 100,000 miles on it, what are some good plugs to be using? i was thinkin bosh 4s but someone told me they would be bad for my car..

i don't think autozone carries ngk(well not from where i'm from at least)..i purchased mine at o'rielleys auto part store for like $7.50(pack of 4), NGK Spark Plugs BKR7E part#6097.

I did some research and I found info what are the best spark plugs for DSM cars (NGK) and that the gap should be set between 0.28 - 0.32 for turbo engines. My question is does the NGK BPR6ES come with the right gap factory or do I need to set it?

While we're on this topic, why is the ngk spark plug so much better than others? I recently replaced my plugs with autolites(didn't know about ngk) and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to buy them.

All I can say is that engines seem to have been like this for ages. When I started wrenching, I'd hear stories about how X engines preferred Y spark plugs, and sure as all day, when you'd have ignition troubles and change the plugs to the car's favorite, things cleared up. There isn't any sense to it that I can make out, it just seems to be.

I'll tell you another odd one- Datsuns only liked Nissan Genuine Parts condensors. I can't tell you how many I've "fixed" just by throwing away the Beck-Arnley or Wagner or whatever other brand and replacing it with the factory part.

Maybe it's just the faster-car-with-fresh-wax phenomenon.

i've also wondered the same thing...

i mean a spark is a spark right? if the gap is the same and the materials used are pretty much the same, you would expect them to perform very similarly.. which isn't the case at all.

as for using autolites in your dsm... get ready to buy some ngk's.

Fzuck NGK, well atleast the factory that wouldnt hire me .

perhaps, even though the same materials and technology, differnt geometry is used, thicknesses of material, what not.

### plugs in ### motors, whod figure.

I have a question, which spark plugs should i get? the guy at my local shop said that Bosch is crap that NGK is the way to go. i dunno tho, i wanted to get a second opinion. also how much if any horsepower does spark plugs add. thanks guys

definately get ngk's. more specifically, get ngk bpr6es which is the regular copper core ones, don't get platinum or iridiums.

spark plugs won't add any noticable horsepower, but you might feel a difference when using incorrect plugs (anything other then ngk), and they won't last as long.

ngk, just noticed he is n/t so dont listen to the part numbers above, I believe it is ek instead of es, but this has been discussed before and one of the dsmtuners wisemen jumped in and said exactly which to get art number and all to search for spark plugs and it should come up :thumb:

Cool, thanks for the info Defiant. I never really gave it much thought. I know what the next thing for my to-do list is. :thumb:

just to add, NGK BPR6ES plugs are for stock to lightly modded
BPR7ES for mildly modded
BPR8ES for heavily modded..

Just to stay on topic, I've never noticed a difference until you swap PLATINUM plugs into my car. I once upon a time didn't know squat about turbo DSMs and went to pepboys. they told me bosch +2's would work great. Sure enough I put them on at home went for a drive and the car didn't idle right, would stutter under boost, etc. Then of course trusty dsmtuners helped me out to get the right ones.. from NAPA

I'm guessing that the BPR7ES would be best for me right? I have all of the stuff listed in my profile and I'll have a swapped 14b soon.
I'd say no, stay with the 6s until they start failing. 7s will probably load-up in real-world driving. You may want to swap to 7s if you go the the track.

Thanks again for the help defiant. Just one more question, I finally found time to swap plugs so I went to advanced auto and got the BPR6ES's. But when I opened the box they have two tips??? WTF Granted I didn't have the car when it came from the factory but are the plugs supposed to be double tipped? It almost looks like the bosch double platinums! :barf:
