sounds like a lawnmower??

ok so i drove my car today in the snow and it drove fine all day long..my gas light came on a couple times when i was running low on gas then it cut back off.well on my way back it all of the sudden it started running like shit then the gas light came on solid.the idle sounds like a lawnmower and sputters i couldnt put it in 3rd with out it bogging real bad..could this be because i was running realy low on gas??it sounds like my laser did when the injector plug wasnt tight.i dont think it can be that?please help

Find out which cylinders aren't firing and if it's one or a pair of them not firing.

firts add some gas to the car it might really need it . then you might want to check your spark plugs and wires to make sure they are working properly. that might be your problem just a suggestion.

thanks yea i think its more likely gas cause i drove it everywere today on 5 bucks its great on gas when im outta boost i babied it home but i think the gas ran out this the first time i ever let it get this low.its not fuel cutting its just not reving up it sounds like a lawnmower.

You should try doing a boost leak test on it.

yea i dont know how i would get a boost leak so suddenly if i never hit boost all day cause of the snow on the ground...it was fine when i pulled out my freinds drive way all of the sudden the gas light came on and it started sputtering it cut off so i started it again and it was idling funny..no check engine light or anytihng came on

you dont have to hit boost to have a boost leak. it's also called a vacuum leak. one of your intercooler pipes might be loose, or you might have a hole on one of them. just a suggestion.

also if you ran your tank real low you could have maybe pulled some crap into your fuel filter causing bad fuel pressure...that happend to me once......with how old our 1g cars are its possible the gas tank might have some build up in it.....check your filter or maybe just replace it.

Its not a good idea to let your car sit overnight with less than 1/4 tank when its below freezing. Just a heads up. Start by adding gas then if that dont fix it try checking your fuel pressure. If its low enough on gas it could be pulling air into the lines or as stated above you could have pulled trash from the tank.

yea thats why i went last night in below 0 weather through the ice to go pump gas in in it and now it runs fine im thinking thats all it was.the ecu was probly going crazy with no fuel to push out

So it no longer sounds like a tractor? That also could be caused by a blown out spark plug. But you would really notice a prblem if that is the case.

Glad to hear it but don't be surprised if it starts doing it again.

When guys report that the engine is sounding like a lawnmower it's usually not firing on all cylinders. The causes vary and this one didn't get tracked down.
