So I have a 94 talon tsi. It has several mods done to it, and the stock boost gauge is wired up to read Knock. So every once in a while when I'm driving the stock boost gauge spikes (reading knock) and the car has like no power when this happens. Then it goes away after a min. This happens under normal driving conditions, and sometimes when I try and accelerate. When it happens I let off the gas because I'm sure its not good.. But my question is what is causing this to randomly happen? Some days it happens alot, other days it never happens, or may not happen for weeks at a time. .. So I'll list my mods so that maybe that will help. Also the car is an auto.

16g turbo
680cc injectors
ECU Chip tune
2g Maf
2.5 intercooler pipes/ Big front mount IC
Full 3in. exhaust
Tubular manifold
3in. o2 housing with open dump
255 Walbro pump

I'm probably forgetting somethings, but thats most of it. So if anyone has any insight on whats causing my issue please let me know!! Thanks.

I did some digging and if its anything like honda axles the fix would be to pull the opposite axle out and get a heavy nail or metal with a slight angle at the end to get up and over the carrier pin and hammer out from the opposite side.. just be careful to only be hammering on the axle end and nothing in the trans... ill see if i can find a vid on you tube

Thanks for everyone's replies!

Xiteamxi said he tried it and it worked, so going with the long screwdriver, nail, rod seems like the only bet without creating an abundance of extra work.

Thanks for that information and looking for a video enriquez2000 !

I dont think a self tapping screw is going to tap itselft into a hardened axle shaft LOL.. and we dont have welding as an option. So we will attempt to remove the drivers side axle and punch it out from the other side. I think Doug is coming back over this coming sat, so it'll be a few days before we figure out if its going to work or not.

Cool. Shouldn't be too hard. The passenger axle is a little more difficult to remove but still a cake walk. It's 2 bolts on the carrier bearing. Torque the carrier bearing to 22-29ft/lbs. I think they're 14mm. I'd unbolt the downpipe to for clearance. Just a tip, almost everything on our car is 10mm 12mm 14mm or 17mm.

Going to have to drop the t case for more room as well. 5 bolts then it will pull off tranny then slide of driveshaft. Makes sure to support the driveshaft so its not laying down and putting extra pressure on the joints. Also keep the tail of t case pointed up so you dont loose any fluid unless you plan on changing it.

Well terrible news my other daily, my Jetta, just crapped out on me today....it's leaking out trans fluid really bad... So no car to drive right now..... Not a happy camper

Damn... your name should be transkiller bahahha

Sorry, i dont mean to joke but you have bad luck.. Id let you borrow something to drive if you were in CO

That sucks man , I take it's a pretty bad leak too? Trade the jetta for a welder ;) I might be able to come out Thursday instead of Saturday since ur in a pinch.

Clean up that axle seal that was on the passenger side and make sure its not torn and can be pushed back into place, if not we will need one of those at least or you will leak.

Id replace the seals regardless if possible.. just my 2 pennies.. better to start fresh

Well I now have some good news.... Got mad and pulled the broken axle shaft out!! Bought a powerful drill, titanium drill bits and went to town. Threaded it, put a long threaded rod in it and basically turned the rod into a slide hammer with some heavy pipe... It popped right out.. WAY easier than taking the other side out!! And I was able to keep all metal shavings out of the trans.

It would be kind of hard to get shavings in the trans when the broken axle is in the trans unless you drilled completely through it , I wouldn't be to conserned.

This day went horribly bad... And the outcome was greatness!!! Got it all back together.. Rather quickly. Took it for a drive to the gas station and checked for leaks....NO LEAKS!!!! Couldn't be happier right now. It's driving great, might need an alignment now though??

Anyway, no there were no metal shavings getting in the trans,, I went overboard with making sure non got in...stuffed tons of shop towels in the openings around it, tapped it up tight. Looked like I Was performing surgery on it LOL....also put several magnets around where I was drilling so all the shavings stuck to those. Believe me it was spotless when I got done!

Great day but unfortunately I'm probably going to have to sell the dsm link V3 that I just bought...... My Jetta has to go and I need a better daily driver. Anyone want a great body 97jetta? CHEAP!!!

I'd sell the Jetta before the V3!! You could part it out and make even more money if the wife will let you :)

If I didn't have a 98 I'd so buy that V3 off ya! That V3 thou will unlock the fun to break more axles :)

Glad you got it fixed! I'd sell off extra parts before getting rid of that V3! You have all the mods, tunning is your next step!
