A few weeks ago my car was towed on a FLATBED, i went and picked it up the day after, i drove it off and noticed that the back of the car was boucning up and down when moving, and it took a bit more clutch to get it moving like it was stuck or something. so i pull over and see that there are bald spot on both of my rear tires. So i drove it home and let it sit for a few weeks and now i am starting to work on.

When the car drives it makes no weird noise or anything, i pulled off one of the back wheels, with just that end of the car jacked up, witht he parking break off and the car out of gear i can turn the rotor a little bit, but that not that much, and it takes a bit of force.

the car was towed on a flatbed also. But the brakes where in need of replacement before the car was towed. The only time i have driven the car after i had got it back was straight to my house which is about a 10-15 mile drive, and it drove fine the whole way home besides the buoucning up and down cuz of the bald spots.

Anyone have any ideas of what it can be? Or any diagnosis test that i can run to narrow down the problems?

I also work at a car dealerhsip with a shop there, think it would be safe to drive it there 2-3miels away, and have them get it up on the lift?

Bald spots? Sound like the rear wheels weren't turning. Transfer case locked up? Rear end seized? You could move it 5 feet in the driveway and have a buddy look underneath. Is the driveshaft turning? Ok xfer case is fine. Are the rear axles turning?

Did you see your car taken by a flatbed or were you told it was taken that way? Some tow companys are very stupid when it comes to AWD. It would make sense that he towed it and the rear locked and he pulled it like that all the way to the shop. Just a thought:thumb:

I was told by my moms boyfriend that it was towed on a flatbed.

Alright i went out and looked over everythign again, the axles will move either way because the wheels move. So I started up the car and put it in reverse to give it a little nudge so it can start rolling backwards. It rolled completly fine backwards, surprized by this i put it in 1st give it another nudge and it rolled right back up into the driveway fine. so id o this a couple times and i hear no noise or anything, so i decided to take it around the neighborhood, so i pull out of the carport again and its rolling fine till i turn the wheel then the wheels lock up. i pull it to the side of my house drive it and it is rolling fine in a straight line, i go to turn around where there is a bit of dirt and i heard the rear wheels having trouble going, they want to slide on the dirt.

so i get it back to the drive way and let it roll back and forth again, then i try it with the wheel turned and it gets stuck, when i turn the wheel to the left i heard a little ticking from the front passenger side wheel area when rolling. im going to go pull the front wheels off and see if i can find anything out of the normal.

i looked up front and couldnt really find anything out of the normal. I am going to run to where i work(kia dealership) and see if one my mechanic friends can get it up on the lift today and look at it.

So it goes fine in a straight line but when turning the rear wheels drag/lock up, am I correct on that? Ok do the front wheels lock up/drag at all? If they dont it sounds like the dif in the rear end is shot. The carrier, ring, and pinion sound fine but it sounds like the spider gears are locked, not letting the outside rear wheel turn faster than the inside rear wheel in a turn. Thats what I'm getting out of this so far, correct me if any of your diagnosis facts I stated are wrong.

from just driving it, it is hard to tell if it is just the rear wheels or not. The hardly wants to move when the wheel is turned, it took ALOT of clutch to get it moving, but i did hear the rear wheels drag just a bit, but it looked like they still wanted to move.

thanks for the help.

If you can dive it in a circle in a parking lot and have a friend watch your wheels it should help clarify it. Go in a circle and have someone see if the outside rear wheel is dragging. Then have them check and see if the front outside wheel is dragging. If its just the outside rear and the inside rear is fine its the rear diff.

Alright thanks, i will probably have to wait till the morning, since i have to go to work really soon. but i will post again in the morning witht eh results of the circle test.

just got to looking a it more, the car has been sitting in my car port for a while, and i have just been letting it run for a few minutes every other day.

I drove it to my work the other day(kia dealership) we got it up on a lift, drained the rear diff fluid, and it didnt look that bad, filled it back up with new stuff, the problem is still there. When i turn one of the rear wheels the other rear wheel lags a second, then it will start to spin the same direction. this is with the car in neutral, the front wheels also spun when i turned the rear wheel. We didnt have enough time to check anything else, ### it got really busy here today, but tommarow we are going to try and trouble shoot som emore.
