hey hopefully you guys can help me out. First of all my car is auto. I was driving along in D and dropped it down into second, and it felt like something locked up for a second and then broke loose. After that it was making a weird ticking noise and it just wasnt driving right. It felt like it had no power and then my engine started overheating and i had to pull into a parking lot and just left my car there. Will go back tomm to take a better look at it. Any ideas??

Could you tell where the ticking was coming from? Waterpump area, block, timing, trans, head?

From personal experience, a tick accompanied by a huge loss of power turned out to be a spun bearing.

yea, when my dad heard it he said it sounds like a bearing. Im gonna have it towed soon, my friend can tow it for cheap so ill just wait for him. If its a bearing, how much work will it need?

if it a spun bearing, youll definatley need a new crank, that ones shot. you may get away with a micropolish, but highly unlikely. otherwise, check your rods, make sure nothing got tweaked, and there are no scores in the cyliders from a jerk. if its just the crank, go onto ebay or DSMgraveyard, they have good deals. and go with better than stock bearings. ive got ACLs on my 6 bolt turbo, and those things will wear out the crank before they ever spin. i got really lucky and found a 6 bolt crank and block from a friend for 150. otherwise if you have the cash and time, and if its still stock, put better sh*t in, its worth it.

I just picked up a crank for $110 with a fresh micro polish.

If thats the case and the bearing had spun, as smithGSX stated, you'll most likely have to replace the crank. Time to pull the motor and get sneaky....
