First to the UDP, form my understanding, it reduces the strain from running accessories, my question is, if i have no powersteering belt (yes i a have no powersteering for AC), then is there a point to buying UDP, or will I put these on other spots beyond just the power steering and AC.

My second question is about Cams. Will they still work if I decide to go turbo later on? Right now I plan on staying NA for at least a year or two, but who knows if i ever fall into a decent size lump sum. Also how do cams work exactly; I read they give a more agressiveness, but what exactly does that mean in technical terms.

Sorry if these questions have alreayd been answered, i tryed to search, but didnt find to much.

under drive pulley is this...
used to power altenator and ps/ac

this is stock vs. ebay udp

The lighter weight of the UDP will help regardless of accessories you are running. Being attached to your crankshaft will cause it to rotate faster which your rpm's should increase quicker with better response.

That's part of it, yes. The other part is the fact that UDP's place less load on the engine because the ratio of the diameter between the crank pulley and the accessory pulleys is beneficially altered. Using the same principle, some enthusiasts have put overdrive pulleys on their accessories.

A UDP will almost always provide gains, even if you do not have power steering, because it is also driving the A/C compressor as well as the alternator.

Much thanks, had been debating the UDP for awhile now, guess now is the best time to get em due to tax season. Anyone have a prefered site to go to? I saw previous posts saying howell, yet i couldnt find them on there... then again I could be blind.

Should be easy to change, perhaps while i'm changing them i can finally take off my AC like i have been planning on for the past year... I am kinda a weight freak.

*EDIT*
I seached some more and found the link =P for those who might need it when searching here it is
AF/X 30% Underdrive Pulley 2.0 Diamondstar - AFXDSP95S

any upgraded cams will help now and if you want to go turbo later

you don't know much about the 420a ;) Many boosted 420a's prefer to use the stock cam as the available aftermarket cams haven't really proven to be a good bang for the buck when adding boost.

From what I've heard don't get one from Howell unless you want to wait forever. I got mine from customcargrills.com. Welcome to customcargrills.com

Unlike the factory pulley this one does not press on. It is a bolt on and they do include three allen head bolts to bolt it on to the crank timing belt pulley. Very lightweight compared to the factory piece.

Mine from howell took the normal amount of time compared to anywhere else. It might be a hit or miss type of thing, idk. But three little allen head bolts? Is that safe to do or even possible? Wouldnt it still need pressed on anyway?

Yeah but I only used green bc I figured I will have to pull it sometime again the way the cars are. They arent bad. I just have a hard time getting the 3 holes lined up since the center piece got a little damaged over the years of pulling it.

Also Dont forget you will reduce rotational weight by around 6 pounds less so that extra power goes to your wheels :rocks:

Despite my budget, i've decided i need more POWER!!.. yeah i know we all do right. So I went to buy the AFX udp, but when i got online, howells website said i had to call to order, upon calling, they said that they were having some troubles making them and were not sure when they would be for sale again.

In other words, I need a good UDP, but don't really want an ebay one or a 3 bolt one... so if anyone knows some of the better UDP's or where to get another AFX UDP, it would be most appriciated.

The Unorthodox Racing pulley has three bolts holding the pulley to a hub, which is an interference fit to the crank snout. The three bolts here do not thread into the timing belt sprocket.

I don't see the problem with bolting the pulley to the timing belt sprocket anyways - many other engines (such as the 4g63) don't use a press-fit pulley. If it concerns you, apply Loctite.

just from what other people have said, it seems that its just a lot simpler to not use the 3 bolt style. Also i forgot to add, does anyone make one that is just for the alternator? As said in my first post way back when i dont have AC/ or PS so i wanna make sure that thing is as light as possible =P

Thats doubtful, but you could have a machine shop (don't do it yourself) trim the unnecessary part of the pulley on a lathe.

A 2G neon pulley will work as well. Modern Performance has a nice option

MPx Underdrive Pulley 00-05 Neon - Underdrive Pulleys

IIRC you have to double check the belt sizes, the ones they send may not fit

you're thinking of the 1g neons, they use a V belt for the alternator. The 2g neons switched to a 4 rib belt for the alternator, just like a 2g eclipse with a 420a. the belts that they provide with the kit I linked will be wrong IIRC but it gives a good inexpensive option for us.

Anyone know the size of the AF/X underdrive pulley belt that howellauto sells? My piece of junk A/C-Powersteering belt that they provided shredded while I was going on the highway and now needs to be replaced. I tried a normal size belt that would be used if there was a stock size pulley but there was too much slack on it.

thanks.
