sorry if this is a newb question but i am clueless on this thing....UDP

I saw it on 2gnt, it was one of the earlier mods u should do, i already have cat back headers and intake, but i was thinking about adding some more mods, so if anyone knows what im talking about, id appreacite the help.

UDP = underdrive pulley. get the afx one from howell as siu suggested, its only 120 bucks there i believe. basically, it is a much smaller pulley than the stock one so there is less rotational mass to spin around which allows the power to be created quicker and some power is actually freed up. correct me if im wrong but i believe thats how it works :dsm:

edit----according to 2gnt, the udp reduces the drag of the accessories on the engine.

Most of the gains are made because of the lighter rotational weight :)

dont you have to get a UDP with a harmonic dampener? im not sure thats just what ive heard.

Not correct- the greatest gain is the shorter effective lever arm of the smaller-diameter pulley, and the resultant lowering of effort to drive the belts.

Our Crank is internally balanced. Therefore we have no need for a harmonic balancer. the turbo guys will.

Then why do our cars come with harmonic balancers?

this has been a highly debated topic, but since there is no udp with a harmonic balancer for us, and since a lot of people run them and nobody has ever reported a problem with engine wear from a udp on our cars, its not anything to worry about.

Careful Chris. Just a disclaimer on the UDP. ^^^ This may be true for An AF/X UDP that is properly balanced BUT do not, I REPEAT DO NOT, get a cheapy E-bay UDP. It is probably not balanced and therefore will most often beat the crap out of your engine. Never put an unbalanced part on the end of your crank. Big no-no.

Yeah, while my fusterating installition, I knicked the pully a few times LOL, so far so good though. If I dropped the engine I wouldnt have knicked it but thats what happens when you take shortcuts :(

haha sorry, i guess i assumed people would be smart enough to know not to buy a crank pulley on ebay, i was refering to the AF/X and Unorthadox udp's. like ^^ he said, dont buy an ebay pulley, only buy an af/x or unorthadox.
