Hey guys, I am doing some major work to my car over the next few weeks and need some info. If I am going to put in better cams for my 90 laser 2.0 should I just get some turbo cams or aftermarket. I only use it for daily driving but since I have to pull it all apart I figured, "Why not?". As for the crank pulley, just to avoid it falling apart someday why not upgrade. As for those ebay udp's, how are they and what size belts will I need? Thanks! Oh and I have done some crazy work to my hood, wish I had a digicam. I may have the first fully functional 1ga cowl vented hood with dual inlet vents! :thumb: :laser:

I searched for 2 hours and am not finding what I need to know, don't everyone speak up at once now.

put in a HKS 264 intake cam only.. leave stock exhaust.

quality of ebay udp is probably ok. as for size of the belt, you will have to get one that "just fits" from your autozone once you install it. No way to gauge clearence and distance.

ok why just 1 cam?
and what is an underdrive pully ? i thought it was same pullys just lighter.
the gears are smaller so you will need bigger belts?

Thank you Daedalus, I really appreciate the help. As for the hks cam, with only cai, headers, and the pulley it wouldn't be too much? I was looking for a 93-94 intake cam after I searched. The belts should be exactly the same pattern then, just a little longer right? Do you have personal experience with the hks cam? What should I expect from it?

N/T cars dont gain any power from changin the exhaust cam because there is no turbo bolted onto the exhuast manifold.

An underdrive pulley "underdrives" accesories in your car around 15% so there is more power going to your wheels than to the misc. crap in your car. I have a full unorthadox kit on my car and have no negative effects from it driving with a/c lights, massive stereo, etc. You will notice an acceleration difference, and the engine does rev faster due to the lightweight nature of the pullies.

I have firsthand experience with the HKS 264 (its on my car right now). Ya know how your car kinda dies out around above 6k? Well swap this mother in and you will scream from 4k-7k building more and more power the higher you are in the rpms. Truly a big difference and worth the money.

Thanks again, I am definately going to do the pulley then now. I might hold out on the cam though, those hks cams are pretty expensive. I thought if I could get a noticible difference out of a turbo cam for only around $30 or so then I would go for it. But the hks goes for $299 in most places! I am not trying to go all out, just mildly upgrade. It is just a daily driver after all and I don't race it.

obviously the HKS 264 is going to give you better rev characterstics and more power b/c of the increased grind. Some people say it can make your car idle rough, but mine idles just fine considering i have done everything possible that adds vibration and rough idle. :p

but a turbo will give you gains as well, probably not pull as well at top. But it will idle like stock.

If ya got the money, get a 264, if ya dont get a turbo cam. Either way, its an improvement.
