They say you wont flow past your smallest point right? So whats the use of getting a catback exhaust with a stock downpipe if you wont flow past your smallest part(would be the part before the flex). Hell why upgrade the exhaust period if you cat flow more past your exhaust mani? Why get an aftermart uicp if you cant flow more past the stocker intercooler? Yeah I know, I had time to think about it LOL
Input would be great, rep point WILL be handed out!
 
Hotter gasses flow faster than cold gasses. When the gas is hot coming right out of the motor it will flow faster through the downpipe and as it cools it flows slower.
 
It's all about relieving excessive backpressure. If you reduce backpressure there will be a gain.

Exactly what he said. When you reduce the restrictions you will see gains. By adding an exhaust you are eliminating a restriction. All of the little mods are like pieces to a puzzle.
 
the whole "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link" doesn't apply to fluid dynamics. Much like the way electricity flows, there is resistance throughout the whole exhaust, no matter what size or what restrictions are in it. When it comes to cars, though, least resistance is not always the best, as tuning because of pulses has a lot to do with the performance of an engine. However, since a turbo is more resistance than you need, on a turbo car it's generally a good rule of thumb to have the least resistance post-turbo as possible.
