I was driving back home then all of the sudden i couldn't shift to 2, 4 and reverse but i can shift to 1, 3 and 5. When I try to shift to 2,4 , & reverse it slides back to neutral it's like hitting a wall but Sometimes it does shift to 2,4 & reverse but it feels like it barely grabs it like it wants to slide back to neutral. When the car is off i can shift normally I could go to 1,2,3,4,5, & reverse and have no problems except when I turn on the car i can only shift 1,3, & 5. I also heard a popping noise and i felt the vibration on my shifter when that happen that's when i couldn't shift 2, 4, and reverse. Is it possible that my shifting cables snapped? i look under the hood and nothing came loose unless is in between which i cant see. but i decided that i'm going to buy new shifting cables but before i buy it, could that be it or could it be something else. I don't know much about shifting cables and i was wondering if someone knows how to diagnose. Thank you for your time.

That would be my guess, usually if a tranny goes out you start loosing one gear at a time. Besides gears 1,3,5 are controlled by one cable and 2,4,R are controlled by another.

NO. One cable (select cable) controls which pair (1-2, 3-4, or 5-R) is to be selected by the other (shift cable) cable. And when trannys fail you rarely loose one gear after another after another.

Make sure the shifter cable casings aren't moving where they are supposed to be bolted down on the tranny. Also that the control shaft counter weight isn't bumping into the lower radiator hose.

+1 If that bracket comes off that holds the cables in place this could happen. I bought my talon and this was "the problem with the trans" its a easy fix.

i figure it out i don't know why i didn't check well apparently one of the brackets snapped off this is why the gears kept slipping off. i already replace the shifting cables since some the rubber part were torn off and i already put everything back in place. So everything is fine now. Now i got to check the other problems it has now. Thank you everyone
