SOLID front/rear aluminum motor mounts!

Steven (biglady112) hooked me up as well. These things look downright sexy. PERFECT fit! I have no doubt that the traction/performance gain will more than make up for any slight increase in vibrations at idle. I'm doing some other work on car so it will be a couple weeks before first test drive. Here are some more pics including installed shots.

Can anyone with these mounts take a video of the inside of their car showing the vibration. I need to see if mine is due to the solid motor mounts or something else.

I heard that if you just do the two sides and front instead of all 4 motor mounts your interior won't shake that much since all the other mounts aren't near the dash. idk how true that is but it sounds logical. Any input?

With just the solid left/right and insert front/rear, the steering wheel was the only thing in the interior that was evident of solid motor mounts. Now with the solid front/rear the rear view mirror even shakes on cruise ! It's really not that bad and sadly I went to the track with these on a really shitty night, so the car wasn't hooking worth a crap. I want to go back when better conditions are out and hopefully these things will really shine and give me some 1.6's.

I was looking at your mods, and I have a very similar setup to yours. I just have filled mounts currently. I was considering getting a set of prothanes, but these caught my attention. Would I stand to benefit much from these aluminum mounts? My mirrors already shake, so I am not concerned about that .

Also, could someone tell me if I could just get another set of mounts and send them out? That way I don't have to have my car parked for a few weeks?

Yes, you can do that. As long as they are the correct mounts for your car it doesn't matter if they actually came off of your car.

So my car has been up and running for a week now. Tonight took her out and did some nice spirited driving. My impression is pretty much exactly the same as what Tom and Matt previously said.

VIBRATION: I previously had the ES inserts for front/rear and the Windo-Weld "fill in" for the t-belt/tranny side mounts. Compared to that the vibration at idle really doesn't feel any different. Actually it feels a little bit smoother at idle (go figure!?). But when I first let the clutch out (ACT 2600) there is definitely more perceivable chatter felt in the cabin when it engages. There is also more vibration at very slow speeds. For example, in 1st or 2nd gear driving through a store parking lot at 1-2K rpms (damn shoppers and their carts ). But at normal cruising speeds in the city or on highway it feels about the same as the poly mounts.


SHIFTING: NICE!! Much smoother, notchiness noticeably reduced. I'm not going to say it shifts as smoothly as my bros BMW, but it is a big improvement over what it was.


TRACTION: I saved the best for last. To put it simply, F**K YEAH!!! What an improvement. All those guys who said this mod kicks butt for traction weren't kidding. The difference is profound!! I can give it a fair amount more throttle now before I lose traction. And when I do lose traction it's straight wheel spin, not wheel hop. Today I intentionally did a few smoke producing spins all the way through 1st and 2nd with no wheel hop at all, just nice smooth spinning. Keep in mind guys that I also have other suspension mods (including lsd insert) which can be seen in my profile and as previously mentioned I have also filled the other two mounts with Windo-Weld. The car also feels a bit more responsive and peppy (for lack of a better term).


IMO the overall performance enhancement is worth the slight increase in vibration (compared to poly mounts). If you are considering this mod and you have experience with the Prothane set (front/rear inserts and full replacement for the other two) then you will likely have no regrets.

If you only have the Energy Suspension inserts for front/rear then you may want to try to find someone with the Prothanes to take a ride with to compare.

If you want to do solid mounts front/rear but leave the other two untouched then I have no idea what results to expect but if you do please post results.

Glad things worked out for you romeen. I told you traction would be awesome. My friends 415whp 2500lb mirage hooks at the top of second dead nuts from a first gear roll because of these now. On 185mm all season tires mind you.

Any one who needs them just send them on out. We will do them as long as they keep showing up. The machinist told me they now have to buy new aluminum as we used up this monster pile of scrap.

Yea my friend Drew who has his own little performance shop, he welds motor mounts on DSMs, I think he uses steel though, but he says its a significant difference over any other insert or prothane.

I have prothanes and they do the job, my mirrors already shake, and I have that typical 2k rpm vibration ( no B/S)

This looks good though, a lot of guys need to get off of their old school window welded mounts anyways . Ive found that they start to break apart after a couple months of hard driving with 300+ hp.

I don't know either. It always bothered me (I'm talking starting four years back) that these were always only available as inserts. I'm glad steven and his machinist are stepping up to the plate. This mod was WAAAY overdue.

Ah well. Would much rather have the solids anywho. Wonder why that is. The 2Gs are right at the decade mark, so what's taking them? 10 years not enough time to offer two more mounts? WTF Screw 'em. We can do better.
