SOLID front/rear aluminum motor mounts!

For those people on a budget, I used hockey pucks for all four mounts. Cam belt mount and gearbox mount was a press fit for 2 pucks and the other 2 mounts were spun up in the lathe. $1.90 per a puck and i used 8 pucks. lots of 12second launchs later and they are still good.

^ That's awesome....I can't believe how creative we get sometimes. I used cutting board material cut outs as temporary inserts when my trans mount busted, still got a photo in my profile.

These make the prothanes look like stock mounts. Seen it on the dyno in person myself. Before and after.

ive still been looking for a shop to make some of these for me and had no luck. Anyone else find an alternate place to find them?? thanks.

Look a couple posts up, I've been making them for a few months now.

Sounds good. I may jump on board with these type of mounts later in the year if I can find a good deal!
This probably makes the car feel a lot more responsive, as well with aiding with launching.

We have done three sets in the past month. I have two sets here now in the process. Just to let everyone know.

If I send you the front and rear mounts, how much to unpress then press in those sexy aluminum inserts...:hellyeah: 2G GSX mounts that is!

^^^ That is crazy. How many miles on top of the 12 second launches?? What are they made out of?

Not that many in this car, iv seen them do lots and never have a problem. They are similar hardness to nolthathane but not as brittle, some kind of rubber.

I have purchased my Solid Mounts from Glenn :thumb: "turboglenn" that is, im not to sure if he is still making them for people. but for the record, i went from 4 OEM rubber mounts (60k) to solid Front + Rear, OEM sides, and WOW! the motor doesnt budge at all anymore! definitely worth the money. Glenn is a straight forward guy, and if i need anything fabbed up again, he will be the first person i ask. :rocks:

Glenn: If you are no longer making these mounts, please PM me, and i can delete this post. Thanks!

While it is not the best video, this will give you an idea of what your engine movement(basically nonexistent) after you do this mod. This puts any other rubber type insert to shame out there.

This is my own personal car on the dyno.

This is my friends mirage on the dyno before we made these for his mirage. You can see how bad his engine moves at the end?

Biglady isn't doing them anymore. I sent mine out to "badas93tsi" and he's working on them now. I will post pics when I get them in and completed if anyone wants. Send him a PM and see what he says.

Also does anybody have any updates on how many miles they have driven, and how their transmission bellhousings are holding up to the solid mounts.

I have a few thousand miles on mine. The only problem that I have noticed is fasteners becoming loose from the vibrations. The last time I checked the tranny-block bolts they were fine but I have some Nord-Lock washers that I will be installing for peace of mind.

I begged and pleaded and biglady did them for me! Ask him...he might just do them IF he has the time cause he was VERY reluctant to do mine. Not that he didn't want to help me out but because he's very busy which is absolutely understandable.

Sorry guys. I am even more busy than the last time this got brought up. I would love to help people as the machine shop is always willing to do them. I just cannot justify the time for coordination now, shipping, and everything that has to happen with this. I think we did almost 75 sets before I had to step back. I worked 70 hours last week and 65 the week before. And this week I am at 48 and am taking three days vacation. I just have no free time with work.

Not only that, now that I am making good money I have been pouring it all into my car and spending what little free time I have getting my car ready for Bonneville. And that is nearly a full time job as well. I end up working through the night a lot just to get stuff done on my car. Or all day because I ended up working all night at work.

There should not be many issues with loosening bolts. I expect it, but romeen is the first I have heard of it. There is tons of locals running around here with tons of miles without issues. I have yet to hear of broken bellhousings. And to be honest, I don't expect to. That is one of the benefits of these. They keep things planted the way they should be. We all wail on our cars every time they run. No issues here. Shoot, we even have a few cars running steel L-brackets now for mounts. No more inserts. Just solid metal.

Well that's very good to hear biglady. I still have no idea what to expect with solid engine mounts as I haven't even been in a car with prothanes. I will check the bolts once a month probably to make sure none have fallen out from vibrations.

To clarify, the loose bolts is not a significant issue at all. None of the more important bolts such as tranny, timing components or the mounts themselves have been affected. It's mainly smaller non-critical fasteners. But I've definitely found quite a few that were loose but nowhere near to the point of falling out.

As far as what to expect, well the first time you fire her up with the solid mounts you might be thinking WTF OMG. It's not subtle. At idle it's going to give you a nice vibrating back massage and any interior panels that are loose will loudly make themselves known. But you get used to it and for me at least the improvement in traction, handling, responsiveness, shifting, etc. make it well worth it. One of the better performance mods IMO.

Ya that sounds kinda scary Romeen LOL. This is one of those mods that you just have to jump into. Worse comes to worse I can always go back to stock sides to cut back on vibration. I would also like to report that blcknspoOln put 5-7k miles on his while owning his DSM with zero issues at all.

If you aren't at a certain level do not get all solid mounts. It is a good mod. But it isn't necessary if you aren't driving the car hard. So far here is what I have ran into just from a couple of mis-fire vibrations.

-The alternator tensioner bolt came out the Jracing alt relocate kit. Bolts came out just as I parked the car. Alternator belt was loose as hell. Now fixed.

-Later on motor was making a noise. It sounded like a spun rod bearing. I was mad as ####. But that wasn't it. Damn alternator bolt literally broke in half allowing the alternator to hit the bay. Now fixed

-I heard a noise from my exhaust. The bolts connecting the down pipe to the thermal exhaust were coming out.

-I'm currently getting the "Miata Mod" depowering the rack and found out the power steering pump bolts were coming out. The pump was almost ready to just fall off.

I never had any of the above issues to the extent reported. None of my bolts backed out nor were there signs of them getting loose due to the vibration. Going from a full set of prothanes (solid left/right, insert front/rear) to prothanes and the biglady mod, the vibration did not increase dramatically. Yes the vibration and chatter were very noticeable, but nothing to the point of being uncomfortable nor worried about if the car was going to fall apart. I'll say it again, this mod is awesome. I would even venture to say even for the DSMers who are considered "lightly modded".
