SOLID front/rear aluminum motor mounts!

Guys, it was a combination between the nonsense involved and the mass coordination. The place that does these is only providing the service. I had to run them across town, coordinate emails and pms, and shipping and payment for each set. I did not mins doing it, it was a huge pain when I had 12 sets come in at the same time. Then everyone one freaking out when it took two weeks or more. These guys did us a huge favor, and I was not about to push them. I got mine done a long time ago and everyone else would just have to wait until things aligned.

I still visit the fab shop on nearly a weekly basis. I constantly have other projects and things I need them to do for me. But 36 sets in the short time we did them just by hearsay, did get to be a bit much.

I am sorry to say, I am still taking a break from this, as I am starting some serious fabrication on my colt, and just bought another Suzuki Samurai that I have been elbows deep in as well. So I am just enjoying working on my own cars for a while. It has been some time since I have done that. I have been working on other peoples projects on the side to make some extra cash for a few months. And on top of that, I started a second job about 6 weeks ago, so time is not something I have a lot of. And running these mounts down there and back is about a 1.5 hour trip usually because we get to bsing. And with two jobs, I can't afford that 2-3 days a week like I could this time last year when I was making good money.

I may start another round this summer, but it all depends on how far I get with my safety equipment.

But, the other deterring factor here is the constant bs I had to deal with. I would literraly get 50 emails or pms that people would flake out on to a single order. Some times more. All that time in front of the screen was annoying. Not only that, everyone would email or call like 500 times when it took more than like three days. I was very clear with everyone. When I had an update, I would call or email. And I did just that. These guys weren't making a ton of money, if any at all on these. So when a huge job came through, I would only expect them to do something that would actually pay the bills, rather than a few small pieces of aluminum stock. I would get these ghetto g'ed up homie emails that just pissed me off, that would never be heard from again. That is why I went to the weeding out process and was selecting folks I felt would keep their car and appreciate what they were getting. Not because it was a cheap way to get a repaired mount or what ever bs reason guys wanted them. I wanted to know that genuine people and racers who ACTUALLY needed these would appreciate receiving these.

More than fair and understood. You are a true asset to the dsm comunity. When you are doing them again you will def have people waiting. :thumb:

Would you mind posting up the contact info of the shop that did them?

I feel bad for you that you had to deal with such ungrateful, insensitive people. I've dealt with my fair share of members and some are just ignorant. I commend you for your kind favors to the sites members. Hopefully all goes well for you. :thumb:

you should consider buying a large lot and selling them yourself. this way you dont have to deal with coordinating everything. i would do it if i had access to a shop who could build them. buy 50 sets and sell them, then you just have to ship them out after payment.

I won't bring it up in here because it has already been shut down but to do this you would need to just get inserts and then ship them like prothane inserts and just get a local shop to press them in. It's in the works but to buy 50 sets of mounts and get them pressed in and done ready to ship is just crazy for one regular member like steve. He is still just one guy. If you wanna send him 2k he'll be sure to hop on it though.

Crimsondragon, I am not going to give the name of the shop out. They are a local place, and wish to stay that way. They are not going to ship things back and forth with people. THe owner is a old timer who just enjoys his job and wants as little hassle as he has to in his day. I can guarantee he would not do it for others at the same price, nor deal with any logistics.

I am willing to hear people out offline. If there is something I think I can help you with, we can go from there. The weeding out process just got more serious, so if this post catches your eye, DO NOT WASTE MY TIME.

Here is my set that I did for my 4g63t set-up

This is the front mount but will be doing the rear as well

All I did was take my old insert mount and replaced it with a solid one, so I can always remove it if Im not happy with it. Its not welded to the round mount that bolts up to the frame so I can slide it in and out when needed but it sure is a tight fit :)

I picked up a set an got the sides done as well. I didn't need the front roll stop because I got a bar from Paul but they came out real good. From what I was told this is the first set that included the sides

I like the idea but... you're replacing a crappy chunk of rubber with a solid chunk of aluminum. Aluminum is a light metal comparatively but it's still a big chunk of aluminum. There is no way that it needs to be that big. I'd like to see the same thing done but with six half inch holes bored in it; to make it look like a six shooter and to weigh less. It would still be very strong and look killer.

Really, how much weight are you looking to save? These are not like aluminum sheet metal where you can punch out lightning holes. You will lose structural strength.

I would guess that if you decided to drill holes in your SOLID aluminum mounts to make it look like a "six-shooter", there would be that one dumb person that couldn't make the brackets mount up properly, and thought that the mounts had adjustable mounting points due to the holes and ended up attaching it in the wrong hole. You never know....I have seen stranger things in my life.

As well, I would rather have them solid. It isn't like they weigh 50 pounds and need weight reduction.

If they come up for sale again, I would be down for some!

Talk to Slippi. I think the Batch #2 is coming up. Ask him and see if he still has a slot open.

There's STILL too much slop with the 4 urethane bushings installed? That it would be best to get full alum front and rear bushings?

I can not promote them in the forums section but in a nut shell everyone seemed interested in the idea but when push came to shove no one stepped up. If anyone wants any serious info on anything they can PM me but I really can't talk about it in a forum any more than that really.
