Well after some reading on here and then riding in somebodys 1G GSX I knew I had to look for a GSX as the 420A with the turbo would never satisfy...at least not with my wallett. So after some craigslist searching I found one in my price range, well actually it was posted for 4800, I sent him a pic message of 3600 and he said come and get it..then I asked if he would take 3400 (yea Im cheap) ...and he took it! So I drove it home and now its time to see what this car is going to need. I felt as though the man didnt know much about it and he had no papers whatsoever. He had only had it for about six months. He says it has a 6bolt swap and as a newbie to dsm land I wouldnt know if he was telling the truth or not...it also has a greddy intercooler and some other upgrades that he said which i had a hard time understanding his spanish accent. Anyway I know from reading that some much needed maintenance is due up first. I would like any advice from you veterans out there that could help me. Like... Since I do not know what kind of oil it has had..what would be the best synthetic choice? and What type of plugs? Wires? What I need is a good list of maintenance do's for my new 4G63...:hellyeah: Im pretty excited! It is pretty quick already even with the stock little turbo but before sinking any more money into it on levels besides maintenance I want to be sure that it's ready.. so please help a brother out..

Your mind is in the right spot, maintenance first. Check spark plugs(NGK BPR6ES work well) spark plug wires, all filters/oil(I prefer Mobil one synthetic but its up to you really), and a the main one is the timing and balance shaft belt if you don't know when the last time it was changed get a new one. The upgrade path on here is good to follow if you know what part to get next. Here's a link to see if you have a 6 bolt How to quickly tell a 6bolt and 7bolt engine apart

I would recomend bradpenn oil it has very high zinc with is for your engine or get royal purple i would used mobil 1 just my opinion.. go to forced performance and read this http://store.forcedperformance.net/...Performance Recommendations for Motor Oil.pdf download to your computer and has very good information.... I have one question for you why do have to mention his spanish accent is really hard to understand why is it always a racial comment about spanish people tell me..

he had a think spanish accent, big deal. it is not like he was slamming the guy, just that he had difficulty understanding them. if someone said that about my dad, which he has a thick spanish accent to some, I would just say that you get used to it.

op, good choice. Honestly, oil is oil, I use napa brand oil and it is valvoline. Why do you want to run synthetic? any particular reason? You do have your head on straight with the maintenence first.

Haha. Good work. Last year I sold my ESi for $3400 and gotbmy TSi AWD for $3000 :thumb:
Man, you guys are some sharks! I need to take you with me to the dealership next time. Congrats!

I was using Mobil1 10w30 since I got the car, but just switched to Shell Rotella T6, and it seems good (and cheaper). A lot of DSM'ers are using either.

Thanks for the link on how to check. It seems to match the "out" pattern from the link. Im posting a few pics of it..please tell me what you think. Please excuse me if I put something up that seems like an idiotic question..truth is I am new to cars and motors all together...thanks again for your help I am sure this is going to be a long learning experiance..

I am no way racist..the guy was awesome..just hard to understand the accent.. airmail could you tell me more about the recall dealership post? what does that mean...

thanks for the link dansen

6 - bolt. I had the same confusion the first time i pulled my engine apart, once you get a 6 bolt and 7 bolt oil pan next to each other, the difference is very obvious

There was a recall for the transfer case in which all the oil would leak out and potentially cause the wheels to lock up while driving. Its probably been done but you can call mitsubishi north america and give them your vin so make sure its been done. Not sure about what other recalls there were on 2gs. Have fun with it!

Good catch man! I remember how lost i was too when i got my first dsm. Theres a lot of choices for oil but i use Mobile one 10-30w just because its the cheapest synthetic LOL. And dont forget to check all of your belts along with ALL fluids. Other than that everyone else cleared it up for you. Happy DSM-ing :)

Thanks a lot fellas, great info.

Well I was taking a friend for a ride and got into the turbo a lil bit and then......we gotta problem WTF As I began accelerating the car felt like it was sputtering and had lost the power in the mid rpm range....so now Im just wondering what happened..took it for a ride again the next day and it was acting the same way...any gear.. It runs normal in the low rpm but after about 5000 it sounds like it hits a limitet and just kinda wines with no go...any body got any experiance with this problem...I tried searching some threads and really didnt find any answers..I found some similar sounding problems but no answers..

One of your first moves should be to get a boost leak tester and start there. After that I would do all the maintance and you should be ready to roll. Congrats on the car man :rocks:

I run royal purple or mobil1, they both seem to work fine, can't really tell the difference. One thing I was told, not sure if it's true or not, was tht ALWAYS run synthethic because it's easier on the turbo and it extends your turbo life.

That's exactly what I was going to say..+2

You should post pics of the whole car..;)

Looking at that oil pan you can clearly see it has the dip so it is a 7 bolt. The 6 bolt is completely flat around the oil pump.

Recalls are just things that were found to be faulty after the vehicles had been produced. Usually its just a safety issue. The only 2 I can think of for dsms are the lower control arms, and the transfer case recall.

Hey thanks for all the help so far everyone, I wanted to ask again but before asking I will say that the guy I bought it from says that it had a 6bolt swap...I used the link provided earleir in the thread to see and came to my unexperianced conclusion that it was a 6bolt (the link said if the oil pan went out torwards the drivers side than it was a 6bolt...) there are some pics but it was still hard to tell, also one reply said it was a 7bolt due to the shape of the oil pan..I am still trying to figure it out.. I would humbly like to ask if any of you would also help me identify the various other parts with this car that are not stock, any help would be greatly appreciated. This site has been very helpful. :thumb:

oops, small pics...Im at work rite now but I will post better pics when I get home

when I got home from work I started going through the clamps and seen a split rubber fitting going into the intake manifold..I pulled it off re clamped it and it was good to go..:thumb: Thanks again for all the help
