I put a down payment on a 95 GSX and am going to pick it up this weekend hopefully.
OK heres the story about the car, the car is at a used dealer and is not running.
When I saw the car the intake, head and turbo was removed and in the back seat.
They are supposed to be dropping a used motor in it right now.

This will be my first turbo car and I have NO idea what to look for when I finally
go to see it in running condition.

What should I look for, how do I make sure the turbo is working properly?
The car has a SAFC on the dash (not really sure whats it for)
but how do I make sure its hooked up right and working?
It has what I think is and after market intercooler, is there anything I should look for here?
I believe the intake tubes are Injen, once again is there anything I should look for.

I can REALLY use help with this I hope I am making the right move buying this car.

IF THERE IS ANY KNOWLEDGEABLE TURBO PEOPLE IN THE PORTLAND OREGON AREA
WHO WOULD CONSIDER LOOKING AT THIS CAR WITH ME I WOULD BE GRATEFUL BEYOND LIMITS.
You can reach me at [email protected] if anyone is willing
to help me out....THANKS....I can try to compensate you for your time
unfortunately almost everything I have is tied up in this car but I am sure I
can manage something.

Please be nice, like I said this is my first turbo car and have no knowledge about it.
I figgured a GSX would be a good starting turbo car.

Any and all opions are welcomed and appreciated.

for the turbo, if it has a bov (blow off valve) it should make a woosh noise when u get off the gas, and you should feel a pull after it spools up

look in the gallery at some of the engines and turbos just to get an idea of what ur gonna see under the hood and not be surprised OMG , make sure the engine they put in not leaking and is clean, if its not clean, its prolly not newly installed, just rebuilt :sneaky: , even used motors are steam cleaned before they are sold unless they are from a crappy junkyard that doesn;t have a steam cleaner

make sure the back seat doesn;t have oil or grime on it from those parts :p

and goodluck :rocks:

:dsm: :dsm: :dsm:

EDIT sry forgot to mention to check the oil level before and after u test drive to check for leaks, and if possible get a mech to look

I would take the intake pipe off and check the turbo chaft for endplay. I got screwed when I got my Talon cause the trubo was shot. If it was an aftermaket intercooler you should be able to tell because it will be up in the front of the mouth. :D . Not much you can really check out with this, just look to see if there are bent fins and make sure that it is intact.
If the car has an AFC then it probable has aftermarkt injectors also, you could ask about them. I would aslo do a compression test to check and see that this rebuilt motor that they put in is in deacent condition.

Drive it hard when u test drive it too. THat way you can see how it handles and listen for any noises. I had the tranny go out in a week and the turbo was blown also. I was almost in the same situation you were. I'd defiantly take a mechanic w/ you or take it to him before you purchase it. If they dont let you take it to a mechanic of your choice, dont buy it.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input and suggestions.
I will try to find a mechanic to take it to.
My porblem is I am 275 miles from where I am buying it and
dont know any mechs up there.

Anyone know of any good turbo mechs in the Portland OR area???

It looks like I am not picking it up until the 28th now still isnt ready.

Thanks Again
