Okay im looking at a car right now in my area. Its a 97 GSX with some modifications. Its got a ported and polished: manifold, 16g, o2 housing. It has a full apex'i N1 cat back. upper and lower IC piping from RRE, and a turboXS MBC, and a 1G BOV. Im deeeeeply considering buying it but, my friend is warning me not to, based on its a stock engine. Does anybody run near this same setup or know anything about this setup on stock internals? Its also never been tuned. Its had the mods for about 16k miles, and the engine currently has 78k miles. Any help would be appreciated.
 
There are guys running a hell of a lot more mods then that and making a lot more power then that and still using a stock engine. Stock 4G63 is good for 400 or so whp, so I dont think your going to have a problem. Maybe your frined is worried about the engine getting crankwalk? That is one downside to the 7bolt motor.
 
No hes not worried about crankwalk and neither am I. Its so overstated and everybody worries about it too much. I told him the stock internals can take a LOT of power, but hes skeptical of alot of things anyways. One things for sure.... that car is really fast! Well to me it is, compared to the N/T. Oh and its running 15psi at this point. I supsect with bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump, I could go a little higher. If anything ill turn down the boost untill I learn the ways of a standard better.
 
I wouldnt worry about a thing, thats actually pretty nice mods. And it still has low miles, Im running 15psi on 140000 miles with no problems. Go buy it youll like it so much better than your n/t.
 
I wouldn't worry unless you think the guy that owns it hasn't taken care of the car. There's a guy here in OH. pushing around 500hp. out of his 96' GSX, with an internally stock engine. Maybe your friend is worried about the guys driving habits.
 
Yea i beleive hes more afraid of his driving habits than anything. "What if hes beat on it alot?" Yea well, everybody with that kind of car is going to give it a little hell. One cant expect it to be pampered with those mods, and yes the mod list is great. Thanks for the help guys. Anybody in the market for an N/T? LOL
 
its worth the money and the best way to find out if it was beat is to bring it to a garage. and the power that it is pushing out should not be a problem with that car.
 
I'm pushing way more then that car is on competly stock internals with no problems at all. I have about 60k on the car.

I have heard of guys making 428awhp on a 7 bolt and going 11.3. This is rare but has happened before. Apparently this person is trying to go 10's on a stock 7 bolt so there ya go.

Either way there is no problem with the mods on that car and stock engine. What a stock motor is in a DSM is better than built motors in some other cars. :thumb: :dsm:
 
^^i know someone thats done 453whp on stock 7 bolt internals. additionally, they were running that power for a loooong time reliably.

7 bolts deserve more credit than they recieve in this community, IMO.

Isn't it wierd what we pick-and-choose to believe?

If you can get it for anything like a reasonable flight, jump on it. They ain't makin' no more, and there are more and more crashed every day.
 
I bought my GSX for 5,500 knowing their were problems with it and 148,000 miles on the engine/drivetrain/tranny... plus it's an automatic. I knew their weren't many of these cars available so I hopped on buying the car the first chance I had. I planned on swapping for a 6bolt and a 5speed anyway...
 
I think the moral of the story is to buy the car. Sh!t, if you find a gsx with no engine in it buy that mofo...
